It's a terrible inditement of today's motor industry that after 3 years so many cars are not safe to be on the UK roads - this despite all the advances in technology. Pity we cannot have a breakdown of the faults that cause failures, I would bet that worn tyres and blown lamps are very high on the failure list. A friend of mine recently took a Defender in for its' first MOT AFTER being serviced at a main dealer and it failed on 3 sets of brake calipers seized......... ie he only had braking on ONE wheel................ cause? Lack of use of the car, but I ask you how does a dealership service dept not pick up on annual service that 3 wheels have no braking on them? RE: 2013 MOT pass rates - recordman - 30-09-2013 05:17pm Amazing the number of newish cars on the road with only one headlight. I agree, I expect it's tyres, bulbs and worn pads RE: 2013 MOT pass rates - The Valeter - 30-09-2013 11:53pm One must consider to some cars defence that unlike us & our Pride's & Joy they may not have been maintained as in serviced properly, driven very hard & generally abused which will have a detremental effect on longevity of parts etc. We also must remember that every year stricter rules for passing are coming in & something that wouldn't have even been loked at a while back is now a fail. In the 3 MOT's I have put my MG Montego through sinse owning it it has flown through every time @ 23 years of age! I'm not at all suprised to see French rubbish at the bottom. RE: 2013 MOT pass rates - XFullFatTim - 01-10-2013 09:35am But to see VW, Volvo and Mini so far down is a bit of a surprise. |
