200+bhp diesel engines - Andymjenkins - 07-08-2011 07:49pm Hi guys, just registered so be gentle. Considering an Evoque for my next motor (changing from a MB C250 sport). I'm down for going to the Newbury Unleashed event which I'm looking forward too, but one thing sticks in my head, the apparent lack of "performance" diesels. AsI understand it, the most powerful derv unit is 190bhp? I know it's no fair to compare my C Class to the Evoque, but I do. So the Evoque has some 15 horses missing, and probably weights 50% more than the C Class. Plus, 190bhp in something the weight of the Evoque is not going to be enthralling right ? No doubt in 2012 I'm expecting a 200+bhp variant. Maybe even 300? Anyone know if there is anything planned ? My fastest car does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the RRE will be the slowest of 4 by some margin. The Si4 will do me for now but I need a much faster variant. Arden and Kahn mentioned in some of the threads, are examples of the 'tuned' Evoque. And if the powerplant is anything similar to the Freelander, Im sure there are already piggy-back units (eg Tunit) which can boost the power up by 30%? Hardly, but that was not the intention of the post. I even wrote that I was wrong to even contemplate comparing the MB to the RR. Performance is not about BHP, or torque or weight, but the most crucial I guess would be power to weight ratio (but I acknowledge this is not the only indicator, handling etc are other fine indicators). The Merc has 129 BHP per ton, the RRE, 113 BHP per ton. Substantial difference, which I wonder how it compares to other RRs ? I shall have to do some checks. Anyway, the idea of the post remains .... A desire for stronger performing stock derv units for the RRE. I went from a 198hp CTR to a 160hp Scirocco and to be honest most of the time the scirocco feels as quick, there about the same weight but the scircco has more torque. Mind you the 4.4TDv8 can't half shift when it needs to, and the 5.0ltr is indecently quick for an 2.7tonne brick and can certainly frighten a modern hot hatch if provoked! |
