One of my ships crew ashore in Colombo Sri Lanka the other day reported sighting a Fuji 5 Door Evoque in the city, bet there aren't many others in Sri Lanka to keep it company!

Yep, i reckon your right. I've been to Colombo Sri Lanka before, and from what i remember, not quite the Evoque demographic, but an armored Evoque would be handy.

Tim, can i ask the name of your ship?

RE: One lonely Evoque! - XFullFatTim - 29-12-2012 09:24am

Ship is the Safmarine Ngami. Trading Colombo to Chennai( previously called Madras) weekly round trip, it's a killer for most us who prefer proper ocean voyages! The civil war is long passed Benzina, very peaceful in downtown Colombo now and no signs of the soldiers, tanks and barricades that I recall seeing when I was there in the 1990's and early 2000's

Thanks Tim, i checked out images of your ship...nice looking ship, looks really well kept, and it's a big one!!
yeah i gather it's more peaceful now days, good thing too, i just remember being there in 1995 with virtually no tourism, soldiers in the street holding machine guns pointed out, and needing a key to activate the lift in one of the best hotels in Colombo (The Ramadan). Having said that, i liked Sri Lanka, particularly the southern part.

She's tiny! 210m is a tiddler, I'm used to 336m x 48m x 14.5m draft! She's only 2488 x 20ft containers whereas I'm used to 9000 up to 13000 x20's capacity! Spent 3 years on the Maersk Seville which is a proper sized ship!
The company is about to take delivery of the biggest yet, 18000 x 20ft containers at one go! The class is called the "triple E" they have their own website if you google "Maersk Line Triple E class"
The white paint over side on this one is a nightmare to keep clean but is looks much nicer than our usual sky blue topside paint. We will be drydocking in Colombo in mid-January through to end of first week in February.

I see what you mean size wise against the Maersk Seville, and then the Triple E class is absolutely awesomeShocked I've always been fascinated by ships, and always enjoy watching them come and go out of our main port in Fremantle with silent greatness. It's an equally fascinating job that you do as well. My parents home Island of Ithaca in Greece, bred many shipping captains in the past, and am related to quite a few as well.

Hi Tim. I am working off Kakinada on a drill ship. One month on one month off. Great to know there is a fellow seafarer on the forum.

Makes my 2.55m x 10.6m double decker bus look tiny. Laughing
