I have just been pointed in the direction of this company http://www.ruggedguide4x4.com/ruggedguide4x4/about_us.html that may be of interest to anybody looking to buy a used
Land Rover/ Land Rover Defender as a 2nd/3rd car that they want to have fun with. They are all ex-Military so will have been driven with no thought for care by a million squaddies but they will have all been lovingly looked after at no expence spared to the tax-payer. It appears that these guys can not only buy what you are looking for they can also build one to your spec from whatever the military are selling off. One word of warning - as Puma's and TD5 powered Landies would not survive a nuclear bomb these are all either TDi300 (IMHO the best), Tdi 200's or deathly slow NA diesels (ie pre Defender but after Series). They also will have unbelievable miles on them, but they will have been well looked after mechanically.
Somebody was asking about buying one as a surf wagon recently - well this could be your lucky day!
