iPhone5 - XFullFatTim - 14-09-2012 09:30am

I've just had an email from Apple asking I would like to pre-order an iPhone5 for delivery on 28th Sept......... it goes on sale on the 21st
£529 is a lot for a mobile phone. I remember paying more for my Nokia 9000 communicator but that had ground breaking tech in it, iPhone 5 as far as I can see doesn't break any new ground, OK it's thinner and lighter has retinal display (I couldn't see the difference between iPad1 and iPad latest) and can link to even more networks than ever (great, but hardly ground breaking) and it's £700 for the 64Gb version

I was reading that Apple may be Introducing soon the 128gb version for £800!!

"With a 128GB version of the iPhone 5 being released price is a big worry for many people who are looking to upgrade to the latest and greatest iPhone. Many people who though that £499 for a 16GB iPhone 4s was expensive will be blown away by the new speculated prices. It is rumoured to cost around £800 for a 126GB version of the iPhone 5. It is clear to see how Apple have such a big market share in the mobile phone market."

I didn't feel any need to upgrade to the 4S and I bet OS6 will be available shortly on the istore as well so even less inclined to have a £700 5

IOS 6 will be available on I-tunes for download from the 19th of this month.

I took my Samsung Galaxy S3 on a deliberately short contract so that I'd have the option to change early for the 5. One can't help thinking that Apple haven't really tried to move the bar upwards this time - maybe they know that they will sell them by the boat load anyway so why waste the money on R&D?

Although NFC (near field computing - used for Electronic payments) isn't mainstream yet there was a hope if Apple put it out in the 5 then it would be rapidly adopted. No doubt it will be in the 5s this time next year??

I pre-ordered an iPhone 5 for delivery on the 21st. I wasn't blown away by the specs but need a new phone since my iPhone 4 has a faulty 'home' button. I'm happy to upgrade my phone every 2 years and miss the interim 'S' models.

I can help you with your home button, it's a software problem not hardware and it's very easy to fix.

It has been a problem for many people with the ios 5 firmware, but this can be resolved within a few minutes..Very Happy

No 1 son, is cancelling his O2 deal, had his current iphone for 26 months and new iphone5 will be in his paws on the 21st.

It's just a phone to me.

He mentioned something about 4g, I suppose I will get to find out about the hype next Friday then.

How are you finding the Galaxy S3? Not hugely blown away by the i5 and thinking of changing. Either S3 or maybe the new Nokia 920 with cordless charging.
