Land Rover Insurance and who is behind it - XFullFatTim - 19-07-2012 05:56pm

Last year my car insurance was dealt with under the name Land Rover Insurance - managed by Royal and Sun Alliance. It changed with some minor policy changes when I renewed by was still called Land Rover Insurance.
I've just had my renewal notice at home and by the wonders of mobile internet out in the middle of the ocean I have renewed using my mother as an intermediary to pay with my credit card. I was asked to send an email to confirm she had my authority to use my card, which actual has her name on it and POA for me embossed in the name section.
Anyway the address to email is at the domain http://verexgroup.com/ so I looked them up in a well known search engine to find their home page - they are specialist insurers to car makers! Defender premium has gone up from £340 last year to £350 this year. Evoque is still under £200 pa though with them!

OMG. Just got an online quote from Land Rover Insurance and they wanted almost £1100!
No claims or convictions (ever, not even a single point on my licence), full no claims, garaged at night, and I'm almost 40.
Apart from where I live, could I be a better risk?

Been meaning to subscribe for a while now. I changed my Insurance to LR Insurance when I bought my Evoque. May seem a small thing but with this particular insurance you CANNOT just switch your vehicle in / out of policy for a day or two , such as when your car in for service or non accident related work and you get a loan car. To use the dealer Insurance was a 1000 ( one thousand ! ) pound excess so figured I would use mine with a 250 pound excess. Nothing doing , not available on LR Insurance , cannot switch car unless its result of a claim. Previous Insurance company allowed a switch without notification for upto 7 days.

Welcome in Paisan, interesting point. I had never thought of that as I don't normally need or ask for a courtesy car.

SMAYO, if you will live in these high cost areas......................... I live in a tiny village but we have a bad post code as it is a town with a high crime rate 40 miles away (For those that know it is Falkirk FK postcodes) but with the ability to refine those down to streets I benefit. Car is left out on the drive, I'm 55 with a clean licence (not even a single lonely point ever) and it has off-road use included + 2named drivers, one over 82 years old. What I cannot figure out is why my Defender that is locked in a secure lock-up and has a 5000 miles a year agreed mileage, is 16 years old and worth far far less than the Evoque costs me more than 50% more to insure!
