Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - XFullFatTim - 13-03-2012 06:10pm Due to demand for RRE and F2 another 1000 folks are to be recruited at Halewood, which also means another load more will be needed for the suppliers based near the factory so they too can keep up with demand. The 3rd shift and 7 day working we were told about on the factory tour must have got the go ahead then! Interesting that the announcer also mentioned on the same bulletin was that the last time LR put out the call for 1500 more staff in the autumn they got 14000 applications! Well done LR and thank you Tata for having the confidence to make the money available here in the UK and not in India or China. Solihull must be very envious of all the investment. RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - BaringTech - 13-03-2012 07:19pm It's on the BBC News website too... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17353024 Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - ceebee - 13-03-2012 07:30pm This is great news for Halewood and confirms the worldwide success of the Evoque. It should also mean that the waiting times become more reasonable. RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - cjfp - 14-03-2012 07:44am I notice that the bbc web editor has very good taste and used a FRed pic for the story. RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - vinny - 14-03-2012 08:41am That's because the whites are so dazzling your tv would go into meltdown RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - RacingSnake - 14-03-2012 08:47am ^^ Great to hear they're providing more jobs, although the increased output will somewhat diminish the evoque exclusivity RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - Cedric - 14-03-2012 02:29pm That's excellent news, at least in the short run, but I wonder if this is the right strategy in the long run. Car manufacturers always expand to cut back costs and increase profit upto the point where they have become too big. If demand drops at that point it's a disaster. So maybe it should have been kept somewhat exclusive. Let's hope they keep up the good design work for future models! RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - XFullFatTim - 14-03-2012 03:14pm Cedric the additional "hidden" costs (NI, Pensions, training) of employing people in the UK means that JLR/Tata will have thought long and hard about recruiting more people, they won't have done it without doing a lot of sums and comparing the costs with producing cars in China or on the Sub Continent. RE: Another 1000 to be added to the workforce - LDT - 14-03-2012 05:30pm I wonder if these additional staff will be employed on a permanent or fixed contract basis. HEY, DC100 is on its way and the hybrid versions, so they will be pretty busy for a long time. |
