2014 evoque dynamic, what's leaking here? - 9speedrr - 24-08-2020 08:24pm

I just performed an oil change and noticed a slow leak somewhat close to the drain nut location.

What's leaking here? What should I do?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it is the source of your leak, but check the fluid level in the power transfer unit (PTU). It is the unit in your video with the two SS lines. There is a TSB to replace the seal/plug on the PTU if it is seeping fluid. The seal/plug is right above the SS lines in your video and has not been replaced.

The PTU holds less than a quart of gear oil, so it can get empty very quickly and cause gear damage and corresponding whining noise when in 4WD. The fill/check plug for the PTU is on the right side of the unit and needs to be accessed through the right wheel well.

According to the manufacture this is a life time fluid, so it is never/seldom gets checked by the dealer.

I haven't checked but what you described are the symptoms I've been experiencing. Sad

Thank you very much!

Just read “Lifetime” with a pinch of salt in Land Rover speak - for many fluids read it as for the “lifetime of the warranty” or three years, and not for ever and ever.

Agreed, thanks. This type of language ab-usage sickens me, similar to egg labels like "cage-free", "free range", "pasture raised". Rolling Eyes

I'm not having any luck locating the fill / check plug in the right wheel well. Any other hints? pics?

I think the fluid is
LROl 9727 AD PTU BOT72O Oil

from this bulletin: LTB00909NAS1, 25 APR 2016

I have a long trip for labor day weekend and would like to fill this up before hand. TIA!

Follow the front right axle to the PTU case and the fill plug is located slightly towards the rear of the car. You need to remove the front right wheel and use a long extension to reach the fill plug.

So i'm having this discussion with the dealership service dept and they say the PTU is next to the engine and the Haldex is in the rear. Is this part the PTU for sure? Is there a diagram of the entire drivetrain somewhere?

thanks in advance

The PTU is next to the engine and bolted to the transmission case. If you have the "active driveline", which I believe was standard in 2014 for US spec cars, then your car does not have a Haldex. It would have a rear differential made by GKN Automotive with hydraulically controlled clutches for each rear wheel.

The PTU engages the driveshaft to the GKN differential allowing 4wd operation. The GKN differential controls the amount of torque to each rear wheel. The GKN differential is located at the rear of the car, between the rear axles.

The Technical bulletin about the PTU weeping fluid is LTB00834NAS1 from 03 Nov 2015 .

Thanks for the guidance so far. Inspection shows the lines needs to be replaced. This could be my fault from last "off-roading" trip.

They don't have the parts so I'm wondering where I can order the parts and maybe DIY fix this. What do you guys think?

much much obliged.
