Oil/Grease on the front screen - XFullFatTim - 25-09-2011 08:43pm

Driving in monsoon rain this afternoon I have picked up either grease or diesel on the front screen that just smears across the glass. I have already cleaned the wiper blades and washed them in warm water with detergent but how do i clean the glass to get rid of the awful mess on it when it rains. Have tried neat winter strength screen wash to limited success. Any tips/ advice?

Vinegar or autoglym car glass cleaner. Watch out for spills onto bodywork.

The Gard-x appears to have caused all the rainbows that might have formed on the body to wash off with mild soapy water

If it was me, i'd use the vinegar as I can't go without Autoglym on my sausage in batter and chips

The way I gave always coped with this is to put neat washing up liquid on kitchen towel, rub down the windscreen and the slosh clear water over it.
Always seemed to work. Don't skimp on washing up liquid.
Cheers

I'd agree with Griff...don't skimp though Tim....and regularly change the kitchen roll or all you'll do is keep spreading the grease...

Cheers guys, I hear it's been a tropical summer's day down south, Spider you did the right thing to depart from Scotland, this afternoon has been horrendous - we had 90 minutes of rain so heavy I couldn't see the house across the road for quite a long time. Lots of flooding in the Trossachs area where I live, but now clearing skies so may have to put the wipers to the frost setting tonight!

Tim, Hope you cleared your screen and all is ok now.

Thanks, we had a scorching day in the Lakes, we were outside all day soaking up the rays & enjoying the sights of all the weekenders in their boats sailing past our shorefront & news is we are scheduled to enjoy at least 20+ degrees for the majority of this week, so we're just going to kick back, relax and soak it all up, sheer bliss Very Happy

You definitely picked the best week, enjoy it.

Household ammonia is a good degreaser...but washing up liquid probably a safer bet.
