I've got a 9-speed MY14 TD4 loan car whilst my SD4 is being fixed and i'm surprised how clunky/notchy some of the gear changes are, I was expecting a smooth ride.

3k on mine now with no issues. However, the changes appear to be becoming less smooth over time especially at low speed.

At the moment I am willing to put this down to my own lead-footed ness rather than anything with gearbox itself.

That's the same as my rental, it's got 12k miles (20k km) on the clock, when pulling away it sometimes it struggles to find the find right cog.

Hi everyone, hoping to hear about everyone's gearbox issues and how they got resolved in the end? I've got a 14 plate Evoque that's just had its second replacement gearbox fitted so wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar to me?

Mine did not suffer a mechanical fault (usually rare these days) it was all software related but it was towed away. The first fix did not work, car was towed away again last October, this fix has held up, although the gear change was not smooth, that now is much better after another update applied about 3 weeks ago. It works now as it should, its quick off the mark and fuel consumption is good. Due to go if I can find a good F Type of the same age/miles.

How do I know if my Oct 2013 Evoque (collecting tomorrow) is 9 speed or not?

If you get it up to speeds above 60 and manually upshift with the paddle then if you get 7th gear or above then you have a 9 speed auto! If it only goes as far as 6 in the dgital screen window then it's a 6 speeder!

Oh, that simple! I'll look forward to finding out...

When I was at the dealers, I was looking through the long list of specs/features. No mention of number of gears. But it did mention 'auxiliary heater'. I asked. Turns out all diesel engines have it. So why mention it?!

I may be wrong, but I found out by the armrest.
If it doesn't slide forward you've got 6 gears, if it slides back and forth you have 9
I believe these 2 items appeared at the same time.

But Tims is probably the better way.
