A69 is a good route for scenery, done that journey many times in the years gone for work travelling from Annan to Newcastle. I used to go the old military route over the B6138 which is a great road and parallels Hadrian’s Wall for a part.

If you just want to keep your mpg up, take the 50mph option on the A1. Mine loves 50-60mph and returns 43mpg+ all day long between J16 & J10 on the M1 at the moment.

I'll do the scenic route on the way home on Thursday evening or stay over and travel back on Friday, as I have to be at our office for 12 on Wednesday I'll take the A69 so I don't have to leave before dawn!

Got a record breaking 35.2 mpg from my sd4 today. Kenilworth to bouton on the water and back. Mainly a roads.

Just back from 250 mile round trip to Edinburgh and back with some running in between 420 miles to the tank and low fuel warning still not on 36.5mpg on display 3400 miles on the clock getting better all the time if this keeps up I may yet see 40mpg (note cruise was on at 68mph), aircon was on on way down but off on way back

Just back from 420 miles on holiday, only 90 miles each way with lots of day trips out. From a full tank it's still showing 60 miles left and hasn't quite gone into the red so no warning. Each way on the 90 mile trip was 43 mpg which was A roads in the main average speed 38 ish. The total mpg for the holiday 420 miles was 39 mpg. Pretty happy to be honest, and most of the miles were covered with 4 adults and a 4 year old!

I got 50 mpg average today on a 10 mile trip on 40/50 mph A and B roads, I wasn't even trying to be that economical, it's definitely 70mph + that kills the mpg, my daily trip to work involves fast A roads and motorway and then I'm down to 35/40 mpg, not complaining though, still love the car
