just managed a 43 mpg on run from work to home....about 350 miles.....at last!!!!!

The mpg does not seem to differ with me in D or S Mode. I had thought that sport mode would have been more thirsty. This suits me, as I prefer to drive in sport mode permanently.
Currently averaging 32.4 mpg with just over 700 on the clock, a mix of of A roads, dual carriageway and motorway in the main. Obviously hoping that this will improve.

I managed a 41.6 over 200 miles today in my auto SD4.

Cruise isn't good for MPG, its a well known fact!

I wish! Mine has stuck resolutely between 32.1 and 32.3 over 800 miles. As posted previously, using sport mode seems to make no difference, which was unexpected.
Interesting point about the cruise control.

We are currently getting about 31-32, but to be honest, a good proportion of its use is 1-2 mile trips, so it is not bad me thinks.
Went to Liverpool at the weekend which is 15 miles away, few miles of motorway and the rest urban and it was just nudging 37.8mpg as I parked on Liverpool 1 car park!! So as you can see the little trips here and there hammer the Mpg, but it doesn't bother me, its as I thought it would be.
We are away to Wales on Friday for the week, so that will be its first half decent bit of mileage in one go, I think its about 85 miles to Dolgellau which is very close to the cottage we have booked, so be interesting to see the mpg, I think 40mog could be on the cards, but if it isn't, so what!!

Cruise control is not an economy aid, it's a comfort aid. They work fine on the flat and on down hill runs but tend to open the throttle too much when on an up gradient. I do use it a lot though even in local driving. One thing I do find amazing is how quickly once you get onto a motorway or dual carriageway at steady speed the MPG starts to improve..... until you come to an uphill bit! I remember when I drove my car out of LPR and up the M40 I was surprised that a car with an engine that had covered less than 50 miles was giving really quite a respectable return (above 40mpg) but as soon as I got north of Manchester all the gains started to disappear as we climbed up to Shap and then Beattock. I'm resigned to achieving 32-35 in local driving on the fast A roads round here now, disappointing when my 3.6lt V8 twin turbo FFRR returned 27-30 on the same roads as it wafted around on a tidal wave of torque

Getting better for this Si4. A 200 mile round trip yesterday returned 29.8 initially but a bit of spirited driving in the last 10 miles or so dropped that to 29.3. Still, better than previiusly.
I think the car is most economical at around 55 - 60 and the mpg plummets above 70; Tim's comments about the cruise control are true, it doesm't open the taps more than you might on an uphill but equally lifts off on a down hill when it can. I do get better economy overall with it on than off.

SD4 manual - I've only done 277 miles so far of which around 200 miles was motorway/trunk roads @ ~60 mph:
When I collected the car the average was reporting around 15 mpg that increased to about 38 mpg by the time I filled it up to the brim at 130 miles. After resetting, the reported mpg started at about 50 mpg dropping to 40 mpg and then increasing back to 48 mpg.
The calculation based on actual mileage plus reported distance to empty gives 44 mpg. It will be interesting to check properly once I need to fill up again.
