Only 20" winter tyres which I can find to fit the Style 6 are the Pirelli Snow & Ice. Understand they are good tyres but just does not leave much option... they cost around 300€ each also so not ideal

That's why I went down to 19" wheels for the winter - in the UK there is then the staggering choice of Pirelli's, Michelins or Vredstrein (spelling?) My local tyre dealer was only able to quote for the Pirellis and the Michelins and there was £1 a tyre difference and as I have used Pirellis before I went with them.................. now the problem is getting hold of them!

Tim. How did you work around the issue of the tyre pressure sensors? If I recall you have those installed. Did you buy another set of the sensors?

Yes, I have another set but have yet to fit them to the 19" rims, which I'll do when the winter tyres turn up

£220 from Lookers Park Royal parts dept - the parts manager wasn't sure if the Evoque's ones were just "plug and play" or if I would have to take the car to a dealer with the the code for each sensor and which wheel it was in so that they could reinitialise the computer for the new sensors. Reading the owner's manual section about replacing them gives me the impression that you put the sensors inside the wheels and add the special valves, put the tyres on and inflate them etc, put them on the car then with the ignition on leave the car standing for 15 minutes, then drive the car for another 15 minutes then the system should be initialised...................... sounds far too simple for a Land Rover product!

As I say apart from getting the right torque for the sensor stem nuts it all looks too easy in the manual

I've said this before on other winter tyre threads, don't think cos I have 20" wheels I will replicate this with 20" winters. Smaller thinner tyres are better for winter's. I will be using 17" FL2 wheels and leaving the 20" in the cellar.
The reason is that there is less width of tyre on the road to break through the snow, so less resistance and move grip forward. I have Cooper tyres, which are a low speed rating (about 110mph) but have a proper M&S off road tread. They are a little bit noisy, but grip like s*** to a wooly blanket (although clearly can't defy the laws of physics!)
