They can try saying that, but at least two bits of their own literature claim those consumption figures as their own, not 'official' test figures. See my earlier post on the subject

This is shocking. We ordered the ed4 for the sole reason of mpg as we just don't need 4wd. Currently have a 2.0TFSI A5 which at fast motorway speeds will return just over 40mpg. If the lesser powered, similar weighted Evoque manual ed4 does not better the A5 I'm going to be miffed.
RRS supercharged converted to lpg sounding more appealing. Can pick early models up for peanuts...

Sounds like the auto is slightly to blame. Having the manual you'd hope you could short shift if you wanted to improve consumption.
As with most people on this forum we love the look of the car too much to care but it does annoy me of late the difference in current claimed mpg with manufacturers. It's been said above but I've been able to match or better claimed mpg on previous VAG diesels I've owned. I hope we're going to see close to 50 on a motorway run given the manual ed4 claims 57 mpg...

well we have the SD4 manual and have seen very little improvement (if any) in the MPG after well over 5k miles. Still averaging ~ 37 compared with claimed 49.9. Mostly motorway driving too.
If you turn everything off, drive about 60, and set it into cruise control - you can get mid to mid/high 40's. thats not real world driving. Also 49.9 is 'combined' not the 'maximum possible'.
I think LR need to be hung up to dry over this, with compensation surely required, and future literature modified to reflect reality.
you expect some discrepancy - but not ~ 25%

Unfortunately the consumption figures are not calculated by LR but by somebody in the ministry who simulates the car in a computer and comes up with rubbish. My last 4 RR's have all achieved very close to the combined figure from LR, within 1mpg, but not the Evoque. Personally I'm not too worried yet more disappointed that it doesn't meet the claims, especially after running 2 x 3.6ltr TDv8 RR's which could get (and sometimes bettered) 30mpg and both got around 27-28mpg in local driving.

The tests are detailed on the Internet, just google them.
The tests are not run on a computer simulation, they use an actual car. It does not swan up and down a motorway or pootle around town at 60 with everythingnswitched off. It runs in a climate controlled chamber on a rolling road under strict test conditions. Not every single car produced, not even a representative sample - just one sample car. So it's no surprise that yours won't produce the same data
You can't sue anyone if an estimate is wrong. It's an estimate, not a statement of fact.
Even the men from the ministry accept that the tests are not representative of real world motoring and will replace it with, hopefully, something more representative (just google it again).
Until then, we will just have to put up with it, or give it back if you feel really aggrieved, or don't buy one in the first place if you have yet to take delivery.
Maybe then mine will turn up a bit sooner

Nope, not accepted.
LANDROVER claim in their advertising that the SD4 Manual will achieve 49.6mpg combined. NOT the official / Govt test.
It IS reasonable to expect it to actually do it, in exactly the same way as it's reasonable to expect it to be delivered with 4 wheels not 3 !
