RE: Loan car during service - WB - 04-10-2012 05:11pm

Just had a quote from JLC who are Land Rover approved service centre in London for Evoque first service.

Comes to £384.14 so not meaningfully cheaper than the main stealers I mean dealers.

Our main dealer quoted £384 for first service , not cheap but not too bad, although expensive if ts just an oil service compared to Other prestige dealers!

The reason they get away with it is because we tend to think its "not too bad" which means they've priced it exactly right to extract the most profit without making it so expensive that people seek alternatives. Its the general issue with pricing for the UK market. Combined with the fact that we tend to not want to make a "fuss".

Under EU rules you do not have to use a "main dealer" - LR cannot void the warranty so long as all genuine LR parts are used by the garage carrying out the service. I have 2 very good local Indie Land Rover Specialists near me who charge £40/hour labour compared to the LR Delaerships all charging £120/hour in this region

Not too bad?? You are joking right?

Nearly 400 quid for not doing very much at all? Theres no way it should be over £200

Paid less than £384 at LPR 3 weeks ago for the first service.

I got a 62 plate Freelander TD4.
Had very little fuel it it so I had to top it up, but I have to say that Stratstones, Newcastle were excellent when my plans for the day changed very suddenly and I couldn't get the courtesy car back to them until nearer lunchtime the next day. They said it was no problem and just bring it back whenever suited me best.

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you use them then?

I have had my 335i coupe since new in 2007 and have always used the main dealer for all the servicing and will continue to do so. And a wise move it was when it needed both turbos replacing when it was 12 months out ofwarranty, I got them done as if it were still in warranty this job was appx £5,000+ I know for a fact that because I had always used the main dealer I was treated differently.

So, yes it maybe a bit more expensive but I would rather have peace of mind and No hassle any day of the week.

If people want to do it on the cheap and risk any future problems on a brand new expensive car, good luck to them!

And yes Ed I agree it is expensive for a first service but if thats what it is then its tough shit!

I too have had warranty work done beyond the warranty period when a pipe failed that had not been fitted correctly from new causing the failure, I was fully expecting to pay but dealer just handed me the keys all done, you get a good dealer and they are worth paying the extra if it comes with the service, trouble is it knowing if they're a good dealer...
