RE: Big Flaw in the Evoque - The Valeter - 22-05-2012 12:03am

I bought the spare for £120 when ordering the car. I was not going to do so as I had kept my spare from my Freelander 2 when I sold it but like a d*** I forgot to keep the toolkit (assuming it had one as I don't remember it lol) then saw a post on here when someone bought the toolkit for about £170+ Shocked

Result was I sold my FL2 new wheel on Ebay for £104 then ordered the wheel & toolkit from LR for £120 Very Happy

Sorry to hear the bad news zippy

I would have thought that a spare would be standard everywhere. Here in australia every car comes with a spare.
What is LR doing trying to option out every little thing?? Will the front windscreen be an option on the next evoque? Surprised

Its a bit like cheap airlines, you only pay for the bits you want. thats providing that you know and understand what you want in the first place.
Looks like the roof will be optional on the next Evoque model to be released Smile

A bit of balence please; to be fair to LR all manufacturers are doing this as a way of decreasing the kerb weight in a bid to eak out every bit of CO2 reduction.

I know the foams don't work if you don't spot a flat in time and the tyre gets shredded or ripped, but are perfect say of you run over a nail and get a slow puncture. Also note that when the tyre has been foamed it can't be repaired even of it were normally repairable as the foam solidifies inside the tyre. A few years ago when I had a 530d with runflats BMW were clear that you shouldn't tow a trailer with a foamed tyre due to the extra weight!

I suppose its a game of risk; how often have you had a punctutre (rhetorical question) but we all know when you do it's on a Sunday afternoon and you can't get it sorted for a while after.

Yes the lack of a spare is a flaw but one that is going to become more common I suspect.

My wife did not know that it was flat and she did not feel it when driving. I looked at the tyre and the outside edges of the tyre had been worn away (all be it a little bit just to take the writing off) also as I pressed the tyre I could hear the air exiting the tyre. I found the slit in the tyre and tried to pump it up at home (I have a compressor) but the slit was too big to get any air in to the tyre. We do not have the space saver Evil So the car is stuck at home which is lucky I guess. We have the 20" alloys and after getting on the phone we cant get a tyre as nobody carries them as they are made of GOLD thats what you would think when you get the price. We were quoted £408.00 fitted from Kwik Fit or should I say Kiwk Ripoff this was with the so called 25% off. My point is now if the tyre has a slit not a slow puncture then you are totally screwed as the goo fix will not sort that out so you are stuck in your car no spare and no way of moving your car unless you get help from Land Rover Assist. I am waiting now for a tyre to be delivered as I found a Michelin for £198.00 which is a super price . Without the space saver you are in trouble so I so wish that I had ordered one now but did not .The Space saver tyre is a must and Land Rover should have put then in from new and not fitted tyres to the 20" alloys made from GOLD. Guess what I will be buying.

I'd advise everyone to get a spare as opposed to the injection kit, which doesn't really work, ruins the tyre and is tricky to administer. Had this issue on my wifes Audi A1 - now have a spare.
First extra I ordered on mine. Pic here too

Thank you so much for your offer very kind i got the new tyre on Monday morning and the car is back on the road. Thanks again.

Can’t believe anyone would not buy a spare wheel ???

RE: Big Flaw in the Evoque - mark_n - 24-05-2012 08:16am

The message is clear and I, among others, have been saying it for months: specify the spare wheel option.

I agree the jack is poor and it's on my to-do list to find a better alternative.

If you go to the right tyre repairer they can repair a tyre if it has been "foamed", it just takes them longer as they have to clean out the gunk. My local tyre specialist in Bolton will do it so I am sure others will
