That said I am very tempted to orider a SQ5 but will probably wait to see one in the flesh. Do I msis the S3? not really ( it didnt rank as one of my favourite cars i have owned) and I dont regret the change, but what I want is an Evoque with a decent engine, in fact if you took the engine and gear box from the Audi and put it in the Evoque I would be happy.

Come on Land Rover make my day sort out a RRE with a decent engine in please! Before those customer you initially won over from the Germans go back

I'm in exactly the same camp - actually the Evoque with a modern engine and transmission and a sat nav/audio system head unit (the Meridian sound system is beyond reproach) that is worthy of the beautiful exterior.

I should, but can't press the order button on a Q5 (and the SQ5 has no spare wheel so off the list) because it is so dull to look at.

Getting quotes on an Infiniti FX now - quite a funky looking thing except the front is pug-ugly...

My guess is you will see new Diesel engines for 2015 Model year as the Freelander is replaced at the end of 2014 plus there is that new Landrover engine plant being/been built near Birmingham!!

Very possible newer engines in the pipeline, we hear the gearboxes are also being considered.

One of the best 2.2 diesel engines I ever had was in a Civic 2.2ctdi. It never sounded like a diesel, had oodles of grunt and I could get 60mpg on a run without trying, it is used in their CRV, shame JLR couldn't have done a deal with Honda.

On the Audi engine front, I'm sure I've heard it mentioned on the LRE days that JLR re-engineered this PSA-Ford based unit, as it required a more complex lubrication system to cope with the angles of lean, climb and descent to make the car a true LR, do VAG go to those extremes?

JLR tried to do a deal with Honda back in 1977.............................. it ended up with LR loosing some of their
technology (in the BMW ownership days) to Honda who then came out with the CRV in response to the
Freelander1 and in competition to it. It was a similar type of dael as the old Rover 213 and Honda Concerto
dealer way back when most of the members here would be too youg to recall!
