They ask you to prove it by producing the installation and subscription certificates. i've never been asked as my insurer doesn't require a tracker and only charges me (an oldie with 35 years NCB, no points etc) £350pa full comp 3 named drivers, one of them 84 years old.

I got the free insurance from Land Rover, but they quoted over £700. In the end went to Privilege Insurance and I pay £540. I have 7 years NCB and I'm 31, plus I have Business Class 1 insurance. No tracker required but its having one fitted next week.

Quite a few dealers that I've bought cars from (not just LR) have offered drive-away insurance, always seems to be Norwich Union (now Aviva). This seems to be a dealer-specific thing, nothing to do with JLR.

My dealer has offered me 7 days free insurance too. Works out well for me as I'm offshore when the car is due to be delivered so I can pick it up the day I get back and I have a week to get insurance sorted.

One question though does the insurance just cover me as the owner or will the wife be able to drive it too?
