Looks like the maps are from Navteq

Would be nice if they did lifetime map updates for free but based on the attached link it seems you have to pay for updates.

What economy do you live it?!?!? Mapping companies have to make money for the work they do to keep maps up to date. Just because you buy a PC with a supplied OS, do you expect to get new versions of the OS for free?!?!?!

I have a £25 iPhone app that gives free map updates. The in car sat nav costs multiples of the actual cost of the constituent parts. Would have thought they could build in a subscription licence into the price. Land Rover manage it for the traffic service.

Agree. Copilot Live sat nav app updates maps for free. I seem to recall that when BMW's are serviced, the maps are updated.

Actually, yes. I'd expect free updates for a period of time - 1-2yrs at least.

Service Packs or point releases of course, but not the next major release.

My FFRR has Europe from Iceland to the Medi islands and from the West Coast of Ireland and the Canaries in the West to the Russian and Turkish borders in the East. Evoque's system is also HDD powered so don't see why it doesn't cover the same area. My RRS was similar. When you cross a border you change the settings IIRC

Live traffic??? - Landmilch - 15-08-2011 12:37pm

Did the navigations system offers live traffic? I use it with my iphone right now and my experience shows me that the results are much better than the normal TMC announced traffic messages. I thought, if I spend more than 2000 Euro for a navigation system it should be able to provide state of the art traffic messages.
Did anyone knows something about it? Or did RR plan to upgrade it soon?
Looking forward to receive good hints.

Regards
Landmilch

Usually it is Navteq software, well that is the name on the DvD box

TMC is a "download only" system: you get the data via the radio signal, but you can't "reply". Your phone on the other hand uses its own service which is two-way: you have to participate yourself and "upload" jams as you encounter them, which are then pushed to all the other phones. This may be a better system (especially with the large userbase of the iPhone) but it requires a data connection via GSM. The Evoque will only use TMC and I haven't seen interactive systems in cars yet.
