I shall be taking this up with the local dealer for investigation if it hasn't improved by 10000 miles.
I realise that the Official figures are obtained by a combination of magic and throwing ashes in the air and watching them fall but it should be much closer to the official figure than it is, 5mpg average down is a lot by my experience.

I dont think you will get anywhere with a complaint over that mpg figure, I have never known anyone in any car get the official mpg figures in real world driving. For example in my scirocco i managed average of 36mpg over 12500 miles, which compares to the official combined of 42 mpg. I think this is about par for all cars 6-8 mpg less than the official figures in real world use.

First 480 miles averaging 24.5 mpg in an Si4. Quite happy if that improves - I haven't been driving too enthusiastically but haven't been dawdling either and it's a mix of roads.

Great to hear your wife has commandeered the car! What great taste she has and I'm sure you don't mind driving the Lotus Wink

23 mpg hmm. I'll probably do the same as lots of city driving up here.

Defender, a man after my own heart.............. when driving a Range Rover it isn't the speed you drive at, it's how you arrive that matters!

RE: Real world mpg - defender_uk - 22-10-2011 06:15pm

absolutely!!!!

Sometimes i actually tried to drive for economy too included in that figure and i am not a quick driver, well ot in my daily drivers anyway. I could get 50mpg on my run to work if i tried but that 36 mpg was a fair reflection of every day use.
