I went from the TDV8 RRS to the FFRR TDv8 with the same engine. I quite agree about how much of a disappointment the engine was in the FFRR despite the 2007 RRS TDv8 being a heavier car! The RRS had trick electro-hydraulic antiroll bars which transformed its handling too. The other thing I found difficult to grasp was that the RRS had almighty great Brembo brakes, the FFRR I had didn't and on the first journey I nearly ran up the back of a car on the Hanger Lane Roundabout as I was heading toward the M1............... FFRR 3.6 TDv8 needed the big Brembos as much as the RRS!

Mine had Brembo brakes. That's odd.

Oh well hopefully u'll enjoy ur new van with windows the best I can say about a 1 series awful looking car. As for evoque not deserving a RR badge BMW fanboys think the same of the 1 series. I find my 2016 evoque comfortable like the autobox. As for being slow as I came from a 300bhp golfR was worried it'd feel sluggish but I've had no complaints just ride the wave of torque. As for BMW I'll never buy another the last 2 e92 coupes I had both disintegrated around and spent more time ar dealership for warranty work as on my drive.

I will be honest and say I have had 6 evoques and yes I have had a few teething issues. If you are not happy with the 9 speed ZF I would suggest checking if you can get a software update. I personally feel having had both 2.2 and 2.0 it is much better in the 2.0. I think it is probably one of the best auto gearboxes on the market.

My views on Evoque>
I have had 4 FL2's, two GS Auto 160 BHP and two GS Auto 190 BHP facelift 2011MY.
I now have an Evoque SE 180 Auto with Ingenium 2.0 Engine and 9 speed box.
Fuel Consumption. At first I was disappointed only getting mid 30's, lower than FL2 for similar running. I spoke with an instructor from LR Experience and he assured me that after 4-5 thousand miles improvement would be seen, he was 100% correct as I am now achieving mid 40's without any problem. I was on Isle of Mull for Mull Rally as an official and covered almost 200 miles on single track roads over the weekend using sport mode. 33mpg was good I thought. On the narrow twisty roads with tight corners and passing places Sport mode was better than lots of gear changing and kick down.

Complaints: On SE models Headlights are VERY POOR verging on dangerous.
Fuel tank capacity reduced on 2016 MY to allow for additional ADD BLUE tank. Nuisance as I live 20 miles from major fuel suppliers. Local one is always 6-8p per litre dearer than others.

I'm in a similar position to bigmac, I've come from a tuned MkV GTI and thought I really notice a difference going to a TD4 Evoque.
To be honest, I love driving it as much as the Golf. Sure, it wouldn't be as fast or nimble but it by no means feels sluggish. The new Enginium engine is nicely refined and I've never had any issues with the 9 sp.

"Complaints: On SE models Headlights are VERY POOR verging on dangerous".

I too was disappointed with the Halogen lights on mine but Duckworths fitted a pair of Nightbreaker Unlimited bulbs for £30 and no charge for fitting.
It has transformed night driving, I would rate them as good as the HID lights on my previous Subaru.
Can't understand why Land Rover choose to put such poor lights on a premium vehicle.

I was checking out the X3's same time as the Evoque, but I also looked over the 1 series. They had 4 in stock in different kit but all of them seemed to have missed the paint shop when it came to the inside of the rear tailgate. There wasn't much more than one very light coat. Was very obvious. Dealer had no response. Interiors looked good, but too hard plastics. 1 series definitely built down to a price. Hopefully the M140 will be ok though, it least it's got a sweet engine. But I couldn't own one because apart from the engine, I'd have to look at it every day (still looks like a 20 year old Beemer with arse cut off).
