Real MPG with 2014 model - kaalus - 10-01-2014 03:38am

Has anyone measured the MPG with the new 9-speed Evoque? How much better is it vs the 6-speed one? Is it better than manual?

I've had my 14MY SD4 9 speed auto for about a month now and it has covered 800 miles now.

I am thoroughly impressed over the mpg I was getting on my previous 12MY SD4 6speed auto.

It is incredibly easy to get mid 40's mpg without even trying. See my ecco-data image below.

Even when driving quite hard (see last thee journeys figure) I get more than I ever did in the 6 speed driving like granny driving carefully.

My overall average for the life of my 12MY was 31.7mpg after 18,000 miles. I live in rural Lincolnshire and almost all of my journeys are bendy single carriageway A roads and B roads with hardly any motorway driving.

Mpg was never really a big issue for me but I am delighted that the new one if doing so much better and I expect it will improve once the engine has a few thousand miles under its belt.

mark

That sounds impressive from the Mpg.
Edgedata...and sorry to hijack this thread, but can you please tell us if their is still the initial acceleration lag on fast takeoff from slow or stop?
Also, is the key fob still the same, with that rubber side that has the tendency to lift around the edges? If it's different, then a pic would be great too. cheers.

The lag that was present on the 6 speed (rather dangerous lag) is completely gone.

Keyfob looks and feels exactly the same but I'm assured by my service manager that they have addressed the issue of the rubber separating. Apparently, it was due to a residue left on the rubber that prevented the glue curing correctly.

I did have one of my 12MY keys replaced because of the lifting, after about 8 weeks of ownership, but the replacement was fine when I sold the car at 19 months old.

Has anyone got similar data from a MY14 manual?

O.k. thanks edgedata.

Thats HUGE news regarding the lag being banished i would have thought! This would mean it was just the auto, and not turbo lag, which all road testers could never resolve.
From all the initial reviews i have read so far.....they had only spoke of the improved economy, clever gear shifting, and smoothness of the changes.
Yet O-100kph / 0-60mph times appear to be the same.

RE: Real MPG with 2014 model - m_101 - 10-01-2014 05:13pm

wow that really is impressive mpg change for just the change in gearbox!
Also good news about the pull-away lag being cured. Mine doesn't suffer too badly from this though, or at least not that I've noticed.
I think that once the new hotfire engines come out then it might even live up to the (original) mpg figures... if we're lucky.
I still think that it's only in a couple of years when hotfire engines come out that I would think about changing.

It would be very interesting to know whether there is still any mpg gain to be had from a manual box on 2014 Evoque. If anyone has any mpg values from auto/manual 2014 model, please share...

Ohh I like those figures - it will get even better when the car gets the active driveline from the Si4 as well.

One thing Edgedata - living where you live this may not be noticeable, have you noticed any difference like the 6 speed had when climbing hills? On the flat it was not too bad but find any sort of incline and the fuel consumption
would increase quite noticably - is this noticable with the 9 speeder?
