My Evoque caught fire while being driven by my wife to Stratstone, Newcastle, after I reported smoke coming from the engine bay. Land Rover recovery did not have any one available to come to my home to check out my car so they sent the AA who gave it a clean bill of health. Land Rover have assured me this is the only Evoque to catch fire apparently it was caused by a fuel leek

Taking mine in tomorrow for a list of issues, catching fire isnt one of them but there's time yet. Already looking at replacing it with something else.

Diesel or petrol though, as I thought diesel didn't 'burn'

I have also seen smoke coming from beneath the bonnet, but that was just water vaporizing, even though it smelt kinda strange, but my dealer didn't find anything when I dropped it off at the dealer, and didn't see anything as well.

It wont ignite from a spark like petrol but it will make a lot of smoke. Apparently the Army use diesel to create massive smoke screens on Tanks

It makes plenty of smoke, the red arrows pump coloured diesel into the exhausts to make the smoke trails during their displays.

Mine caught fire last night (Pure Tech SD4 Manual). Only 3 weeks old & 756 miles. Just been picked up and now waiting for the replacement car (a Freelander apparently).

When I got home smoke was coming from somewhere behind the engine block on the right hand side, and we saw a small flame burning. Lucky for me our neighbour had a fire extinguisher handy. Next item on shopping list!

I new something like this would happen as I was "trading up" from a super-reliable Honda. Wink

One more issue to worry about? Geez i so want to get rid of it

140,000 Evoques built and two reported fires, I don't think it's a valid reason to want out of one.
