Too much Evoque!?? - DynamicRRV - 28-09-2011 05:35pm
Today I popped into my local LR dealer for another reason aside looking at Evoques.
Anyway on entering I stumbled upon a few Evoques inc a Fuji Dynamic which was similar to the one I have on order.A gut wrenching stomach aching feeling came over me all of a sudden....... I was found to be actually thinking to myself "Im not sure if I like it as much anymore!?".
I feel the reason was it was parked next to a white Freelander and a white RRS 10 plate that was only 5 grand more money.
I dont want to feel like this especially when Im spending £46k on the Evoque!....Why am I feeling this way?
Im serious BTW this is not a wind up.

Its a very small car next to those two, you should see it next to the rest of the LR range also.....however, having both models you mention and a FFRR I can testify it's a great 'drivers' LR as its moved the dynamics of the RRS on 10 fold....and I'd rather use one on a day to day basis, unless I need to use the FFRR or RRS over the grounds as the Evoque won't get to places they will for sure.
If you're interested in a RRS there is currently a 'Stormer' edition out, it has a body kit and I saw one yesterday in White at Coniston LR, its based on the SE, comes in about £52-53k and was absolutely Stunning...with a capital S....
Sounds like you have some soul searching decisions to make, good luck!

I must admit the wait has been so long that it does make you second guess yourself whether you're doing the right thing... Wish they'd get it into build!

What would you rather have - a used (you don't know who has driven it) 2010MY RRS that is starting to look dated and will be replaced in the next 2 -3 years or a brand new state of the art with all the latest hitechery Evoque. RRS is a very nice car (I've owned 2 of them) but a new RRE is much more desirable. RRS isn't exactly a cheap car to run either - £450 RFT a year, 30mpg if you are lucky and they aren't exempt from gremlins.......

It's strange isn't it...why are we naturally attracted to bigger things! The Evoque is a better car than the RRE in my opinion but something in our heads say that a bigger RRS at similar money might be a better bet! It's madness really!
Dynamic RRV...you are doing the right thing for sure...the RRE is a deeply impressive car and in my view, and in my view, the best all-rounder in the World! They have tried coming up with all sorts of rivals in group tests but nothing is as good an all-rounder...it is the Ian Botham of the car world...and if you had to be a cricketer, let's face it, it would have been Botham!
I think of my car past in the same light as my romantic past!! When I first got on the romantic ladder, I pretty much took whatever I could get and the young ladies generally wore lots of makeup (i.e. bodykit) and didn't have much to offer in the body department (i.e. small engine!)...then when I got a little bit older and had more to offer myself, I was able to upgrade a little and the ladies had bigger engines and no need for body kits as they looked great! Then when I got a little older still, I was able to move to a trophy girl (911) who looked great and had the big (ahem) engine! However, she cost me a fortune, made me look a bit stupid, and wasn't great to live with on a day to day basis! The I had a mini crisis and went down the practical route...ladies that you could take anywhere, made me look smart, sophisticated and was comfortable to live with every day (Range Rover) but she was dull, not very race-y, and really expensive to run as she had mature tastes...I now have a lady that ticks all the boxes, great looking, can take anywhere, doesn't specialise in any one area but can hold her own in any situation, is small but sexy, and meets all my needs without costing me a fortune...in other words, she is my Evoque and I would never go back to any of the others! Sure I'm going to have my head turned occassionally by the 'big engined' girls and girls with extra bodykits...and sometimes I might even have my head turned by a girl that meets every practical need...but...will never actually go back!
Note to self...must drink less wine on Wednesday evenings!

Great stuff Token, if that doesn't convince DynamicRRV to stick with it, then nothing will. I'm sure we have all had these doubts tho Dynamic, with me it was initially about spec, then cost and now that I've been without a car for 3 weeks - 'why do I actually need a car at all?' As Philskill says though it's just 'pre-wedding nerves' and I'm sure that if you hang on in there you will absolutely love the car, and realise it's one of the best purchases you've ever made

had similar thought today but with a Jag XF, for same money as a td4 dynamic, i coul get a 3.0 V6 Diesel luxury premium, and was thinking have i made a mistake should i gor for the jag, then remembered i'm only 30, plenty of time for jags when i'm old

Interesting points raised in this discussion. I can see what you are saying.... You can get a brand new Disco4 with leather and armrest/seat pack and a few toys for circa £40k. Thats a lot of car next to the Evoque. Same for a second hand RRS. But, like has been mentioned, the RRS will be replaced in the not too distant future, and the disco.... Both look rather dated next too the Evoque, especially the interior. The new rotary gear select in the disco looks like stuck on afterthought, which of course it is....
My wife had a drive in a prestige on Sunday, really loved it. Didn't think she would be that bothered...

Nice one Token, I must be having a mid-life crisis, the bodykit and a fabulous ride couldn't be resisted!
And I could have ordered a Pure and have an even longer wait!
