It's true - it's one of the car menu settings, I never did link them on my A5

My sisters got a Audi Q5, and yes, although you can link them via the menu settings, but once done so, if you or your passenger accidentally adjust the passenger side dial, then they both become out of sync all over again from that point on,and you need to go back to the menu to do it all over again...thats annoying too.
so how is the automatic a/c feature work if pass and driver select different temp? thats bull..

Well you cant expect half to be a fridge while the other is an Oven... but you can stop hot air blowing on the passenger while the driver get his feet warmed for example.
IIRC Evqoue's system can cope with a 6degree temperature setting difference between the left and rights sides of the car.

4 degrees, isn't it?
Don't know, have never had a passenger who needs to have any settings different to mine other than siting on the heated seats set at 3 which is way too hot for my bum
