Yesterday I followed and then overtook a 2016MY Evoque and it had no lights on at all when my auto-on had switched on my headlights as well as having the DRL's on. When I passed the Evoque I noticed that it had no DRL's let alone headlights on. Is this an option on 2016MY as I thought it is now a legal requirement for all new cars to have at least front DRL's on all the time?
Sounds like someone's converted a pre facelift model to the new lights and hasn't got the DRL's working yet... Or it was faulty.
It was a 66 plater Phil
Guess it was faulty then Tim, pretty sure DRL's are required on new cars as you say.
Well. it depends. Vehicle manufacturers must fit DRL to new types of passenger car and light goods vehicle / car derived vans type approved to European vehicle requirements from February 2011.

In practice this means that any new model launched after this date, and many launched before, will be fitted with DRL, but existing models type approved before this date without DRL fitted can continue to be sold and used indefinitely.

So a new model from 2010 not type approved since could still be on sale. In the case of the Evoque, not applicable.
