Or does this mean you can't have a roof rack with the panoramic roof?

These are illegal Down Under as they haven't been ADR'd.

'Which' have just done their first drive review of the Evoque. It's on-line but you have to be a Which member to access the full story. Basically though they really liked it, but have reservations on reliability (based on current Land Rover/Range Rover products). They have however acknowledged that there is a big push to dramatically improve on this - hopefully for us all, that will happen
Their conclusion was:-

'Initial Verdict

The Range Rover Evoque is essentially a concept car that has been brought to production with apparently little compromise – either in styling or how it performs on the road.

An impressive package

Initial impressions show a very able drive, with Range Rover refinement and performance, plus newfound sporting verve that will appeal to the target coupe and sports-estate buyers.
It is also surprisingly well-priced, while fuel economy is excellent in all forms – with the added benefit of low CO2 emissions and subsequently low VED car tax and company car tax.

Reliability questions

The big unanswered question is sure to be reliability. Land Rover’s record is unenviable, so big improvements are necessary to improve here.
Overall, our first look at the Range Rover Evoque is extremely positive, though. It is very impressive in many areas – overwhelmingly so in some – and is almost certain to prove a sales hit when it arrives in the UK this September.'

So not too bad. The overall satisfaction survey of current Land Rover/Range Rover owners was at 83% so it seems these owners like the cars even though they are always breaking down!

Thanks for that Paulus599. I disagree with Which?'s way of doing business so refuse to subscribe, but appreciate you passing on this info.

Our Belgian car magazine "AutoGids" published their test of the prototypes. They're mocking the fact that Range Rover keeps comparing the Evoque to the RRS while it's much closer to the Freelander of course. Other things:
+ stop / start system seems less brutal and better coordinated
- auto gearbox is quicker than in the Freelander, but doesn't come near German gearboxes
- MagnaRide seems to have a "copy tendency" in Sport mode, especially in the rear wheels
+ it does feel like a real Range Rover (comfort, feedback, materials, absorption)

Did they test a car with MagnaRide and one without? and if so what were there thoughts.

It was a very short article, but here's the translation of the part about the suspension:

"The suspension of the prototypes we were able to drive, already filtered excellently. The MagneRide dampers give the Evoque a "light-footed" feeling. These dampers of the third generation (still in development phase), which can change consistency twice as fast as before, seemed to suffer from copy tendency in Sports mode (especially on the rear wheels). All in all, the prototypes felt like true Range Rovers in terms of sitting comfort, steering feedback, materials and shock absorption of the suspension. In that way, the Evoque really makes a difference with the Freelander."

Do Range Rover keep comparing the Evoque to the RRS?
