Windscreen wiper damaging paintwork

I wonder if there is something about the wipers 'running in' when first used...? I'm pretty sure I checked this when I first got my car and they were fine - I was alert to it because my Audi was designed such that you couldn't lift the wipers more than about a centimetre without it being really obvious that the arms would catch on the trailing edge of the bonnet - there was a menu setting for "service" or something similar to the winter park position on the Evoque if you needed to clean them or change the blades. So I wonder if the Evoque's wipers settle into the right position on their mechanism after some use? Good one for people to be aware of though.

Page 175 of the manual mentions the wiper 'service' position:

1. Turn ignition on then off
2. Immediately press down on the wiper control and then turn the ignition on. This puts wipers in 'service mode'
3. Turn ignition off to cancel.

Bugger.

That's not really enough in my opinion - there should be a warning sticker or the dealers should have to advise it on hand over or like Audi they should build in a fail safe.

Poor design and poorly communicated.

And to be fair it doesn't mention it in the chapter about exterior cleaning and maintenance. Also, that ignition on/off, wipers on, ignition off, scratch nose, wipers off etc etc is very convoluted.

As i have yet to take delivery of my Evoque, i just want to ask a couple of questions regarding this wiper issue....
1. What actually happens to the wiper in service mode, that enables you avoid the scrape?
2. With the Evoque being a press-button ignition on/off, how do you switch on accessories?

1. The wiper move up and clears its way from the bonnet. You can then lift it up to change the wiper or clean the bottom of the windscreen.
2. Press ignition button without pressing the brake pedal = accessories on; Press ignition bottom while pressing the brake pedal = engine start

They should develop a rubber sleeve to put on the wiper arm just to protect in case people forget to set it to winter position.
