Why Automatic
Apologies for my ignorance here or if this has been discussed before, but looking at the poll in this forum it seems the majority of you have gone for the Automatic version of the relevant derivative.
I just wondered why that is? I understand you are all from verious countries but I notice that a lot of the UK users (where Manual cars are more popular) are still going for automatic.
I've driven automatics in the US and sure thats great but aren't they less economical and isn't there normally a desire to have more control with the gear changing (I'm no Jeremy Clarkson but wondered whether the driving purists out there preferred this control?).
Just wondering whether I'm missing a trick and should be going for the automatic (possibly easier/more relaxing drive) or manual (more control?!?)
Sorry for the long winded question!

RE: Why Automatic
Interesting question.
I've gone for auto for a number of reasons.
1. Modern autos actually can work out more economic than a manual in terms of fuel consumption
2. I drive a lot in contested traffic so they are easier and more pleasurable to drive.
3. With flappy paddles and manual hold an auto box can be driven as a manual and actually can change gear faster than a manual box.
Job done.
Cheers

RE: Why Automatic
I'm a seasoned automatic guy but this time I've gone for the manual for several reasons
- I don't like the rotary selector of the new JLR auto
- The manual is lower emissions meaning cheaper RFL
- I like to hold onto something!
- Supposed better economy of the manual
- £1k saved

RE: Why Automatic
First time i have bought an auto, but with the rre i am looking for a more relaxed riving experience, as it is a family car, and i have a young daughter, so the boy racer days are over.
In addition the other reasons may be similar to others, i do a lot of driving in congested conditions which means changing gear all the time is tiresome. Additionally in my current car if i go into the mountain roads, i have a lot of pain in my left knee with the constant changes between 2nd, 3rd and 4th, which left me in no doubt that i should go for the auto, even though costs £1700.

It's a Range Rover, it should be an automatic......................
A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Why Automatic
Guys it must be noted that the top speed of the manual is more than the auto but how many guys are ever gonna be thrashing the nuts off their cars!
