RE: Top Up Oil

I have just searched the Halfords website and looks like they may have made typo with the price per litre of Castrol Edge at £2.00 a litre...................... quick rush down and buy a load! Their other oils are somewhat more expensive at £15 a litre. BTW I see it is 0W50 oil too not 5W30

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Top Up Oil

I called a local dealer and they said to use http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...eea2f#tab1

however this does not meet the C1 spec, its a C2 oil, should this be a worry as this specific dealer is putting this in !.

that Castrol is a C3 spec, so not even as good as the Mobil 1 (C2). Halfords don't even sell a C1 spec oil !, not sure what we are supposed to use for topping up. By the sounds of it the mobil 1 is the best bet and what the dealer i called is using. However, stictly speaking it does not meet the spec !

Hi, is that the spec in the manual?

RE: Top Up Oil

I have concluded the hand book is not very helpful on engine oil specification as it does not give the generic industry specifications, they have specified Ford WSS-M2C-934-B which is equivalent to ACEA - C1 (for use in high performance petrol and diesel engines where Advanced after-treatment devices such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and 3-Way Catalysts are used. Low sulphated ash (≤0.5%)).

My dealer supplied a 1 litre top of Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 which meets ACEA C2/C3 at handover, confused so was I. it's Sulphated Ash content is 0.6% which does not meet the ACEA C1 specification. The correct Mobil product is Mobil Super 3000 Formula C1 5W-30 with sulphated ash content is 0.49%.

I will supply the oil for our Freelander and Evoques services I think, because I am not sure the dealers are really on top of the specifications.

If you really want into the details of oil specifications here is the definative ACEA data sheet:

http://www.acea.be/images/uploads/files/...uences.pdf

C1 is the highest specification for DPF engines.

RE: Top Up Oil

The cynic in me says they will then charge you some kind of handling/labour charge to use your oil comparable to their oil cost.

Bit like taking the cork out of your bottle in a restaurant.

At the last service for my Freelander 2 i enquired about using my own oil and Dealer indicated it was no problem and only charge was for disposal of old oil which I'd pay for either way.
