Tire alternatives for 19 Inch rims

don't know about the insurance. fact is: load index and speed index of the tire are fine for the evoque and width of your rim is fine for this tire. so shouldn't be a prob. in my younger (and much wilder) days i used to run 35" BFG MTs on Brabus 18" wheels on my AMG G-Wagon. the tires where imported from the US, and weren't marked by the manufacturer for use in europe. but i never had a problem with MOT or the fuzz...

yes, those 18" are stock (if you order the "technic-packet" on pure).
standard on the pure-line here in germany is 17", which gives you a much wider choice of (offroad-)tires.
however, i didn't like the look of those 17" and if you go to balloon-type big on the tires, you'd loose the "sharpness" of the steering in sporty onroad driving.
the 18-combo is, like most things in my life nowadays, a (rather good) compromise...

if you really wanna go more offroad, get yourself 17" (OEM or aftermarket) and some MAXXIS BIGHORN

Just an update here.
I spoke to Continental SA that bring the Grabbers into SA and convinced them to add the 255-50-19 to their range.
Will hopefully have those soon then - will post pictures of them when I have them on.

Thanks for all the advice and convincing me to go for these.

General Grabber AT/HTP in 255/50 R 19.

I've got that tire in 255/55 R 18 on the car (plus wheelspacers front 20mm/rear 25mm).
It does a good (although not a fantastic) job offroad, and (maybee important only for germany) has a speedindex of "H", means i can do up to 210km/h on the autobahn...

Finally received my tires and had them mounted about 2 weeks ago. General Grabber AT 255-50/19. Super impressed with them! Took them to the dunes past Sunday and tons better than the Contis.

It is obviously not as smooth as the road tires - bit of a light rumble between 80-100 km/h, but was expecting that.
Looks much better and offroad performance is better.

Would there be a problem with putting 255/55 R19 tyres instead of 255/50? (tyre diameter +2.97% from 235/55)?

Is it ONLY the speedo reading that's affected? (bigger wheel > higher reading on speedo? is that correct? which isn't too much of an issue in itself as my Evoque reads about 5% less than my GPS anyway)

Those are Discovery 4 tires; I'd like to see an Evoque with that still.
Speak to LR first and see if it will affect your Warranty, etc. Don't think they would be too keen on that.
You'd also need to check for clearance, which there is very little already.
If you have an auto, your gear ratios is done around the specific tires size; so there would be a very slight effect there, not that you probably will realize, but things that would probably concern LR.

Ok... Sounds like 255/50 is the way to go. Was just hoping for a bit more sidewall without having to buy a set of 18" alloys.

I'm using 2.4 bar all round, but i' like to get other's feedback also. Asking and searching around, it seems AT tires is a bit of an art finding a happy balance with your car.
One thing to remember is that this is AT tires and not the smooth sporty Road tires that was on there, there is a slight buzz with any AT tires. One thing though is that the performance is not sacrificed at all with there Grabbers. As far I remember, they are also the only AT tires have the highest speed rating of 210km/h.
