Smart Key Battery Low

So just had this pop up on my instrument cluster display along with a lovely repeating ping and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
Changed the battery in my fob and.... Nope. No change. Still there. Is there a reset procedure to remove this?

RE: Smart Key Battery Low

Are you sure the battery you used was a good one? Does the remote lock unlock work using the fob?

RE: Smart Key Battery Low

Just checked the owners manual and on page 10

owners manual page 10 Wrote:To replace the battery:
1. Remove the cover by sliding in the
directions of the arrows.
2. Use the emergency key blade to separate
the Smart key body.
3. Fit a new and unused CR2032 type battery
(available from a Dealer/Authorised
Repairer) with the positive (+) side upwards.
Note: Avoid touching the new battery.
Moisture/oil from fingers can reduce battery life
and corrode the contacts.
Note: If the low battery warning does not
extinguish, this indicates that the replacement
battery is not in a new and unused condition.

Refit the parts in reverse order, making sure
that they click securely into place.

So even though you used a battery just purchased I would try another one.

Did you by any chance have the spare Smart Key with you / in the car?
I took my spare Smart Key with me for a weekend away and when I had both keys in the car I got the low battery warning. Either key individually in the car was OK (no low battery warning) but as soon as both Smart Keys were in the car I got low battery warning.

Arrived - SD4 Prestige, 5 door, manual in Orkney Grey with Element interior. Style 4 wheels, spare wheel & auto-dimming rear view mirror.
Joining MX-5 2.0i convertible.

RE: Smart Key Battery Low

Same problem I had. Apparently, the low car key battery has to be changed within 5 seconds, or the car has to recalibrated again by the dealer. Some sort of safety or security mechanism. I was told this by the guys who work in a security alarm shop. So don't quote in on this. Other cars apparently have a leeway of 10 seconds!

Got mine : Dynamic Fuji White with Lux Pack and black contrast roof.
Optional extras : Privacy glass, Heated steering wheel and TPMS.

RE: Smart Key Battery Low

Swapped to my previously unused spare today just in case my new battery was faulty.
Warning still there with this key too!
Called dealer. Going in tomorrow

Keep us all informed as I am sure this will occur with others also

Why is there nothing straight-forward these days?

RE: Smart Key Battery Low

Now I know it sounds silly but apparently there are different 'grades' of CR2032 battery.
LR resolved my issue by just putting in one of 'their recommended batteries'. Looked exactly the same as the one I put in, but when held between my fingers, theirs was noticibly thicker - and works fine. Chap at parts department mentioned he has seen this happen before with other makes of fobs also.
Anyhoo. Mine all working fine again now!
