Shudder when switched off

Has anyone else noticed this?.
When I press the engine stop button the car shudders. The only way this does not happen is when I press the foot brake VERY firmly to hold it steady. Even if I engage the electronic brake prior to stopping, this is not enough to stop the shudder.

Is it auto? and are your still in D when you switch it off. I noticed something similar but not as extreme if I switch off with the car still in D.

RE: Shudder when switched off

It would be more pronounced in a diesel, my Merc is the same, I nearly always shutdown in drive, but if I put it in Park then shutdown it is nowhere near as bad.

RE: Shudder when switched off

I wouldn't say it shudders (sd4 auto) but it does stop with a thud. Its not a soft stop!
