Selling an Evoque Privately
With (hopefully) an RRS arriving before year-end, my mind is turning to what to do with my Evoque, 2.5 years, Petrol, Coupe, 24k miles, £43k new in 2011. WBAC says £24k, the dealer might bid more but not hugely.
No problem, I thought, I'll sell privately, some decent pictures, sensibly priced, prepare the car and while I wouldn't be deluged, you only need one buyer.
Then I looked at Pistonheads. 307 Evoques for sale, how many of them private sales? Just THREE! If you look at the mix, many fewer coupes than you might imagine and the same with petrol. Just 5 petrol coupes out of that 307.
That low number of private ads must reflect a lack of success selling privately at this level (never mind higher) and the dealer has you over a barrel especially when you are buying a car with as long lead times as the RRS. They will clearly only offer rock bottom for it.
So why are so few people willing to sell/buy privately at this level? Buying from the dealer offers security but at a price. Finance, if you need it, may be easier to arrange than going cap in hand to your bank manager. What else? Distance to travel? Fear of being ripped off both as a seller or buyer? Us Evoque owners too lazy to do the work to sell privately? Too easy (if expensive) to turn up in one car and drive away in its replacement?
Each and every time I have part exchanged a car and then seen how much the dealer has then sold it for, in spite of their "we're over-stocked" and "no demand" protestations, I swear it will be different next time. I'm not sure it's going to be with the Evoque, sadly.

RE: Selling an Evoque Privately
People don't want the hassle of a never ending stream of wheelkickers and time wasters coming to their house, or the hassle of having to take potential buyers who have no intention of buying on test drive. Then there is the risk of the money transfer or god forbid the carrier bag full of used notes to take to the bank. When I sold my Coupe it was as a part exchange and I watched weekly as the price on their website fell and fell until it reach the price I got for it and then it sold - possibly for even less than the website price. I wouldn't want to have the hassle of having to sell privately.
A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Selling an Evoque Privately
Wow, £24k seems low to me!! Perhaps it's the variant, being both Petrol and Coupe??
Looks like we got out at the right time, we had a 4 door prestige Manual Sd4 22k miles and got £28,750 form an Authorised Dealer.
I just didn't want the hassle of people coming to the house, wasting my time and likely really p****ng me off!!! Plus, how do you get your loot?? Cash?? Chq?? The whole process is riddled with potential pitfalls and therefore the security the dealer route gives maybe worth a little less in ££ terms but worth it just for peace of mind. I also sold my 335i MSport Coupe,( beautiful car had from new with only 50k on the clock and was 7 years old), to a BMW dealer, I also got £500 more than it was booked at!!
Anyway, good luck with transaction Mark, hope it all goes well.
Orkney Grey 5 Door Prestige, Manual SD4, Vibe Interior, Panoramic Roof and Privacy Glass. Order Placed 2/7/11 Picked Up 17/3/12, Gone 10/5/14

RE: Selling an Evoque Privately
Mine has just been sold via an Ebay Classified ad. A trader from Scotland is coming this week to collect. I put in the ad no tyrekickers, must bring insurance if wanting a drive & then only one person in the car at any time. I also stated payment by Chaps only & funds to be cleared before key is handed over.
I did this also with my Red Dynamic early last year, infact I escorted the seller to the bank & he rang his there to do the transfer!
Came Home On 02/03/13 Pure Tech In Barolo Black/Cirrus Trim with Bespoke Firenze Ascents + Numerous Factory Options!!
Also :-
Rover 25GSi - 2005 Everyday Car.
MG ZR-Express Van - 2005 Special Factory Order (Literally a one off).
MG Montego 2.0i - 1990 Shows/Sunny Days.
MG Metro 1300 - 1983 Being Restored!

RE: Selling an Evoque Privately
I have just sold my 13plate prestige to
A builder I have worked with over the last year.
I asked my dealer what they would give me to buy it off me. They offered £31500 with 22k on it. Dealer said they are selling for more then book as they are in short supply.
I only paid 35800 for it last may. So if the builder didn't buy it I was going sell it back to the dealer.
Back I jan I was only offered 30000 in part x for a RRS,
I now need to find a new car but not to sure what to get.

Hi
Try James challis at http://www.cherry-motors.com. He buys prestige motors. He bought my TT at a much better price than the part exchange value from the dealers.
