Bugs took out my BSM!

Well, sort of.

I finally got the chance to put some real highway miles on my Evoque with a trip out east to see my parents. Aside from noticing the spot on the edge of the hood where it's been rubbed by the wiper when I've lifted it (my fault, I read these forums, I should have known! won't happen again. promise!) nothing much of note (aside from awesome driving) until the trip back to Ohio.

About halfway back, suddenly I get the notification "BSM Sensor Blocked" alert and the BSM is inoperable. All I could figure at the time was that some large and particularly squishy bug(s) made such a mess on the leading edge of one of the wing mirrors that it interfered with the sensor? I was going to take a look and clean off some of the plentiful bug parts when I next stopped, but a few miles down the road the alert cleared and BSM was working again. All's well that ends well I suppose?

RE: Bugs took out my BSM!

I used to get that quite often in my last Evoque, usually when driving down country lanes with overhanging branches and hedges close to the verges, BSM hated them! I suspect your bug fell off though in this case. My 2014MY car has much less sensitive sensors on it and I haven't have a blocked sensor or fixed amber warming light on the mirror since taking delivery.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
