RE: Real world mpg

These numbers are far from what I expected. This will be my first diesel due to cheaper running costs but the fuel economy seems really average. I was expecting 40mpg at the very minimum! I know the X3 20d fairs better, is that due to the 8spd? 28mpg for a SD4 is not very impressive at all.

Only had mine a few days, but the 110 mile run I done on the motorway was 24.4 :-0. I was also expecting about 40 mpg . . .

At the moment my SLK350 with 313bhp and a V6 Petrol engine does better mpg!

RE: Real world mpg

These figures are TerribleCryingCrying

They aren't even in the same ballpark!!

We all know that manufacturers figures are high, but this is ridiculous. A Manual SD4 doing general driving should be at least 40mpg, which is 10mpg less than quoted!

I Think LR have some Serious explaining to do.

I remember Autocar's In depth road test of an Auto SD4 against its competitors, and it was Awful on fuel economy and was under 30mpg!!! Looks like this is the true figures... Oh Dear Embarrassed

Orkney Grey 5 Door Prestige, Manual SD4, Vibe Interior, Panoramic Roof and Privacy Glass. Order Placed 2/7/11 Picked Up 17/3/12, Gone 10/5/14

Blimey that's poor! What's your driving style like....you are not wearing moon boots are you? I don't think these are economical cars but every time I have a motorway run and stick to 70 ish it seems to be mid thirties rather than 20's. I don't think its very economical around town but yesterday I did an urban journey of perhaps 8 miles and got over 35mpg. Personally, even though I'd hoped for more its still worth it. The thing is that people sometimes believe all the stories about it being shorter than a Ford Focus etc but the truth is that its still a big chunk of metal.

RE: Real world mpg

After 800 miles I'm averaging 33 mpg and to be honest with an indicated 44 combined figure I'm expecting high 30's to 40+ mpg on a run.
I just hope that as the miles pile on the economy improves. I have email Nick to ask what the techy folks realistically expect.

Arrived: SD4 Prestige Auto Coupe with Lux pack. Ipanema Sand with Black Panoramic Roof
Ambience Interior with Macassa wood.

Now a Jag XFR Kyanite Blue - wow what power.
At home and superb.

My car is brand new and that was the trip home. On that trip I did most of hit 70 but did blast up a few times, try up dynamic mode and got stuck in a bit off a traffic jam - so pretty normal driving for me!

I am hoping that once I put a few more miles on it, it will settle down. We are driving up to Scotland for Christmas so that will be the big test!

RE: Real world mpg

We should be a little bit realistic and accept that modern engines, especially diesels (lower reving/lower temps) do take quite a few thousand miles to bed-in and settle down - maybe as much as 20k before the optimal point is reached.

I just can't imagine that a 25% improvement is on the cards - I'd be curious to know what the official LR view is of the real world capability with regard to fuel economy.

There is no way for example that the manual TD/SD manual Evoque can have a Co2 rating of 149grm and deliver sub 30mpg fuel consumption so there has to be something fundamentally wrong with the engine management maps I'd dare to surmise.

Delivered 15th May 2012, rejected and returned 4th Feb 2013 - SD4 5 door Prestige manual with a bucket full of rattles Mauritius Blue. Crazy Audi MY2020 RSQ3

Thanks for that. Just one thing further, did you reset the trip computer? because with me I was also underwhelmed when I got home from my first 100 mile trip from the dealer but then realised that as I hadn't reset it I was showing the average, which included the dealerships use of systems presumably whilst running the engine for some time. Cheers YT
