RE: Real world mpg

If 21mpg is in any way the norm for the Si4, they are not just going to take a depreciation hit at resale time, they are going to well nigh unsaleable.

RE: Real world mpg

Manufacturer fuel economy figures are typically 10-15% higher than we can achieve in the real world because they are produced indoors on a rolling road with a pre-defined driving pattern. I believe all the vehicle makers are mandated to measure in the same way and it is clearly divorced from reality.Sad

Yes, at best the figures allow you to compare one car's figures against another's but real world figures are, as your say, another matter.

RE: Real world mpg

It also depends a lot on your driving style and the type of journeys of course. I can still easily achieve the quoted combined cycle mpg figure for my 2001 CLK (230 Kompressor manual) of 28.8 even though it's done just over 150,000 miles now. I even occasionally best the officially quoted extra urban figure of 39.2 on longer motorway journeys by using a light right foot and trying to coast to lose speed rather than braking (when safe to do so of course!). It's trickier to achieve that in the winter months though compared to the summer (when conditions are better suited to achieving good mpg).

According to the official figures the Si4 Evoque should be on a par with my CLK and although some of the reported real world figures suggest that's hopelessly optimistic, when I test drove the Si4 a few weeks back the mpg for the trip as reported by the computer was around the high 20s (I can't remember the exact figure unfortunately), and that was all A-roads with a mixture of acceleration (to try it out compared to the SD4) and cruising along just enjoying the ride. I won't be hypermiling all the time by any means (there is a reason I'm opting for the Si4 afterall!), but I'm certainly hoping my average economy will be towards the high 20s / low 30s most of the time for the sort of journeys I tend to do.
