Parking Width

Is anyone finding their RRE too wide to park in available marked out spaces?

A news item (BBC Oxford) this morning talks about a Freelander driver being fined £80 because she didn't park within the marked space saying that if she did, she couldn't then get out of the car. The RRE is somewhat bigger and with the coupe's doors being longer than the 5 door's, the problem with coupes will be rather worse, and that's before you fold in the enormous ears.

The RRE is as wide as my Ferrari, which with its wide sills, requires the doors to be opened wide to get out and it simply will not fit into a standard space, said to be 2.4m wide.

For those with cars, what's your experience of parking the thing?

Mine is a 5 door and it is tight. Our local coop as very tight spaces and it's a real struggle there. Usual trick s to park away from everybody else if possible or go for the spaces on a vendor curve.

Surely if it's as wide as your Ferrari your well used to the problem so it isn't really a problem?

Not exactly because, ignoring the unwanted attention the car gets, I modify my use of the car according to things like sleeping policemen, width restrictions and where I'll be able to park it. In short, its width modifies my behaviour.

The RRE doesn't suffer the ground clearance problems but I can think of a number of London rat runs which I will no longer be able to use where they are fine for my Impreza. However, I think the parking will be an issue and when cars start picking up parking dings, it will be seen as more of one. The publicity may have talked about an urban role for the car but urban car parks may not be up to it.

stick a baby seat in the back and park in parent child bays!!!

Hi Mark,

It is wider than a Freelander 1 but not quite as wide as a Freelander 2

Freelander 2
Width (mirrors folded) 2,005mm
Width (mirrors out) 2,195mm

RRE
Width with mirrors folded 1,965mm
Width including mirrors 2,125mm

although theres not much in it

Thanks, I hadn't realised the Freelander is wider than the Evoque, perhaps the woman in Oxfordshire could park normally with those precious 40mm's.

FWIW, I set no great store about having one.

I thought the Evoque looked wide in the showroom - just checking the specs it is about 85mm wider than a VW Touareg which I tend to think of as a 'big' vehicle. The RRE is around 100mm wider than my A5 Cab - that even after 2 years of ownership I still struggle to judge the width of.

There some of those traffic width restrictions (i.e. intended for stopping vans heading down residential streets) that the A5 won't fit between - maybe with an RRE you just go over the top??

I'd love a Ferrari and why not shout about it! I'm jealous Mark, and happy to admit it!! Never even ridden in one damn it!
