Panoramic Sunroof Shade Blind Issues

Has anyone had a problem with the Sunroof Blind on their Evoque?

Mine has started an issue, but only when trying to open it from a mid position....So when the blind is in the open position, at say just above the front passengers head, and then press the switch to open fully from there, the blinds starts gathering on one side.
Of course, i stop it proceeding before it turns into a mess, so i then press the button to close it, and all returns smooth and back to normal looking good.
NOTE : When i press to fully open from the full close position, its runs tight, smooth and normal....all good there.

So obviously, i can get around this problem by always remembering to fully close it, before i open it to any position, and thats a good thing for now.

Anyway, I went to a professional sunroof repair and installer about this, and he suggested to have the tracks professionally cleaned, and lubricated with lanolin which i will do.

He also mentioned that Landrover do not supply parts for the sunroof, but rather sell the whole thing including the glass. And because the glass is bonded like a windscreen, it needs to be cut out and all the rooflining be removed as well, in order to do the job....huge job and big bucks involved. I won't be doing that, but i would be interested in hearing other peoples experiences with sunroof issues they have had, and what they know regarding any sunroof part or whole replacement to see if the above is true.

The fact mine works normally from the fully closed position is a good sign, and if the clean and lube doesn't make a difference, then i'll just remember to close before any opening in the future.

So let me see if I got this right: the blind can't be replaced if it fails? You have to replace the entire glass roof and blind and rails - the whole shebang? That's the stupidest thing I've read all week Smile.

Maybe check somewhere else?

FWIW, I've always opened and closed my shade completely when using the switch. Maybe two or three times I've stopped it in the middle of a movement - usually an open when I say "oh crap - I'm gonna bake if I open this thing!"

Good luck with it.

Yep, thats what he said, that Landrover don't supply parts, only the whole thing including glass....crazy, thats why i asked the question on hear to see what others may have experienced.

Anyway, i'll just take the less invasive method for now, and just clean and lube. Probably a good thing to get it serviced anyhow.

And as mentioned, if this doesn't fix the mid point issue, then no big deal, i'll just open / close from beginning to end everytime, or if its in the mid position, just close fully then open fully.

Touch wood, i'm still very happy with my original 2012 Evo, as its been mostly very reliable.
The fact that its so comfortable, and the fact that the design still looks as fresh and contemporary as the day i bought it, has me loving the thing to this day.
Its amazing how this car still attracts peoples admiring glares as it goes past everywhere i go....the proportions are bold, and perfect!

RE: Panoramic Sunroof Shade Blind Issues

Well, so far with all the thread views, looks like no-one has had any issues with the blind on their Evo sunroof, so no repair or replacement information i can gather.
Anyway, regarding our Panoramic sunroof, does anyone know the percentage of UV Rays the glass stops getting through?
Looking at it from the top looking down into the interior, it appears the glass is very dark tinted.

RE: Panoramic Sunroof Shade Blind Issues

Well i went into the LD Dealer today just to ask the question of wether one can purchase the sunroof blind separately.
The answer fortunately is that YES, you can purchase the Blind $700 AUD and the motor $900 AUD separately, and then the glass is also a separate purchase too.
Turns out the guy at the specialist sunroof place i went to originally, didn't know what he was talking about.
Anyway, I had mine serviced by cleaning the rails using compressed air, and the lubing with lanolin. Seems to have sorted the issue, which i'm also happy to report.

One a side note of interest.....Anyone know the % of UV rays the dark glass prevents getting through to the cabin?
