Paddle shifters - a design flaw??!

The problem happened again today on the road. I don't recall if I touched the left paddle or not, however. Made an appointment with the Service Department.

I think it stays in command shift mode until you switch off the engine, move the gear selector out of drive or pull and hold the right hand shifter for a couple of seconds.

When in D & you use the paddles, it should switch back to D automatically if you stop using the paddles. But in S when the paddles are used, it will only go back to S mode by holding the + paddle for 4secs.

Another silly question. Can in S be use w/o using paddles? i only use S, when i paddle shift, but have not tried to experiment w/o using the paddle yet, in fear it would damage the engine.

Simple answer yes, in S mode it just holds the revs a bit longer

Yes. I use S mode for town driving, as I find it will hold the car in a gear without it constantly changing up & down the box at low speeds.
It's safe to drive in this mode, as it will still change gear but at a higher RPM. Some members report a better MPG when using S mode

I had my Evoque to be examined by an Engineer and he couldn't reproduce the problem. They suggested to me that I put some more mileage on her and come back if that happens again.
