Land Rover Approved Warranties

My car is coming up to 3 years old, and I received an email about my warranty is about to expire and to extend the cover it will cost £57.50 for the next month.

I was wondering if anyone else has taken out the extended warranties.

I had an extended warranty from 2004 - 2009 on my Defender after I bought it as a Land Rover Approved Used car. It was a good fall back as it then included Land Rover Assist and covered EVERY eventuality my Defender was likely to encounter, including offroad recovery (LRA guys loved attending to those ones as they got to also go offroading!) BUT after the cost of dealer maintaining the car couldn't be justified on a
13 year old car that never broke down I stopped paying for it. There are other extended warranties out there such as Warranties Direct - take a look in the back of What Car? magazine or in the specialist Land Rover magazines or even try googling extended warranties for cars. Your dealer might even be able to recommend an alternative (of course they will get a commission on whatever warranty you buy through them). Basically extended warranties are an insurance policy for older cars so even an insurance broker might be able to help.

Hi fam1x, Yep I got offered it by mail, it was £875 for a year with LR Assist, or a cheaper less cover option at ~£500. but frankly I decided to put £875 in the Bank to cover the cost of a Breakdown as my mileage is quite low and I have a 2nd vehicle to fall back on, and my Bank provide normal RAC cover... so no more LR assist for me!

Thanks guys for your reply. I think I will do the same Phil, as I have cover from the bank and in the last 15 years of driving touch wood, I've never had to use any assistance from breakdown cover.

My quote for the D4 was over a grand, but as I bought it as an approved used LR it's warranty still runs until May by that time I will hopefully be in my DS. Unless it's delayed like the evoque was

Hi fam1x, yes £875 will go a long way to repairing your car, and after a few years at that rate it'll even cover something hideous like a new DPF

Funnily my car insurance provider phoned me up, trying to sell me additional personal insurance to which I replied "Err No thanks"... But why we're reducing it from £80 to £30... (Maybe 'cause I don't need it...) then went on to Car Key Cover (No thanks I have it from my Bank), How about House Key Cover (No Thanks I have it from my Bank), Breakdown recovery (No Thanks I have it from my Bank), Travel Insurance (No thanks I have it from my Bank), Phone Insurance (No Thanks I have it from my Bank).. the sales guy in the end said "ok bye" and put the phone down on me!

Pity that banks don't just stick to looking after our money instead of trying to sell everything under the sun in an attempt to recoup the money they lost from other silly investments that no right thinking person would have put money into. I've had several "invitiations" to go and speak with the manager at our local sub-branch (we used to have a bank branch here in the village but they closed it down and moved all the accounts to the next village............. to save money) about my insurance needs - if you have any out of the ordinary needs like going away for more than 2 weeks at a time or owning an SUV that might actually go off road then they are stumped and the computer says "Non".

You said more to him than I would've.

I've had two letters from LR trying to pressure me in to buying the warranty.

Has anyone tried to do the research? I am not willing to spend £60 per month. I have car breakdown cover from AA, which covers Land Rovers anyway.. So am not sure if it's worth it.
Phil, where did you get the £500 extended warranty from?

Have you not received a booklet about it? it had 2 levels of cover (actually there were 4 I think, 2 without assist), unfortunately mine went on the fire to heat the house!
