LR wet engine-reduced output FIX - finally just in time for Christmas!

My present from LR this year . . . . .

LAND ROVER service action Q231: Engine Control Module Reflash

"Land Rover requests that you bring your vehicle in for the installlation of updated engine management software which will improve your engine's response in certain weather conditions. Specifically, during the course of extended driving (40 minutes or more) in wet conditions, (such as heavy rain) when you engine speed is steady, followed by a rapid increase in engine speed, it is possible that an engine misfire may occur. Your engine is programmed to react to this misfire by initiating a restricted performance mode to protect the exhaust catalyst, which means that the drive noticeably experiences reduced power to accelerate until the driver has the opportunity to stop and restart the vehicle. If this mode activates, the Engine Malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate and an engine warning message will display in the instrument cluster message center.
Land Rover would like to install updated engine management software in your engine that will allow the engine to respond with a restricted performance mode that is less disruptive to your driving experience. "

There you go! Merry Christmas!

Only applies to Si4 petrol engine versions I believe.

I just got that yesterday. Never had this happen on mine and I've done that before on trips to the coast. Oh well I take it next year

Thanks for that Slee. Having experienced a "restricted performance" issue on my SD4 i am keen to find out what Land Rover is doing to resolve this issue. In my case, i was told that the issue was caused by a faulty sensor. Touch wood, its all been good since the sensor was replaced.

The issue with SI4 motors is a Ford Ecoboost Intercooler design problem.

Specifically water condensation that forms during extended driving in humid conditions. ie the tropics or extended driving in the wet.

This water condenses and puddles inside the intercooler, in a small cap situated just before the engine intake. Put the foot down and this water ingest itself into the engine causing misfiring.

A technical detailed perspective is found here:

I have noticed something since I had this done. If I'm cruising then give gas to pass another car all I get is pinging. I haven't tried in sport mode but that shouldn't affect it in theory. Anyone else experience this problem since this update?
