Just had space saver fitted........ missing trim?

Just had space saver put in boot. Can't help but feel it's missing some trim or surround as it seems a little slap dash... pics attached!

Can anyone confirm if this is the norm'?

Another...

Last one...

Yours looks a bit small. What size is it?

Just popped out and had a look. Here's mine. Ok, I've got a tow rope around it but still seems bigger than yours. Mines a 155 90 18.

155 85 18. Supposedly the correct size for a spare... it's the trim at the top that seems lacking.

Hmm. Mine was supplied by a dealer and looking at other threads, 155 90 18 gives a nearer rolling circumference to my 245 45 20 tyres than the 155 85 18. What size tyres are you running? I don't think you have anything missing from the trim - mine came all boxed up and I have the same gap at the top.

I wanted 155 90 18 but they said they would not supply anything other than the Land Rover specified size. Researching it; it does seem that 155 85 18 is what they come with if you spec a space saver from new!

Thanks; yes the size I have is as if it was supplied from new. However 155 90 18 is a better size.

Can I ask to confirm; does your foam surround / trim look like mine? The gap at the top seems a little tatty to my eye. Quite disappointing really!

Mine looks like yours, but with an aluminium bracket in the gap at the top left (which has a grey plastic box stuck on it and a lot of cables beside it). The tyre is 155/85R18 as well.

And what is that bracket for do you think??

Wow, thank you all for taking pics. Puts my mind at rest. That aluminium bracket is odd; not sure what that could be for!

Surprisedt: Surprisedt:Surprisedt:SteveD, your towing rope looks like a piece of string from Halfords, is it beefy enough for the Evoque's weight or is it one for an ordinary car or you have taken from a previous car? I would recommend the one available as an accessory from your friendly overpriced LR dealer's accessory shop which is a short woven nylon strop with a snap hook on one end and an eye on the other. The shackle you have also looks way too small for safety - you need minimum 2T Safe Working Load for an Evoque, that one looks like something off a small dinghy! Remember it is not the weight of the car that is being towed it is the shock load as the weight suddenly coming on and off the shackle and rope you have to take into consideration even for an on-road tow.............. for a stuck off-road Evoque in mud you would need minimum 4T SWL shackle and towing strop to consider any sort of tow/ recovery.
This is the recommended one - mine is LR one but shorter, has an eye on one end , hook on the other and no fancy carrying bag, but it is also of 2001 Vintage!

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
