High pitched whine from centre rear of car.......

Only under acceleration; and seems directly related to how hard the accelerator pedal is being pressed - just an unobtrusive whine that goes away at some stage; but from low speed up to 55mph ish / whine that seems to be in tune with my right foot on the pedal. It sounds like it's coming from the centre rear of the car; perhaps between the two rear wheels (just guessing)

Any ideas??

Could be the Pump or a number of other bits, but if the noise is new something is probably wrong, best get it looked at, you don't want to cause any further problems. They may try changing the oil in the unit first to see if that cures it.

Pumps are around £340, plus fitting etc.

When our Haldex pump went we had error messages stating that only2-wheel drive available and no special operations, but no whining, repaired under warranty so not sure of cost. Seems to b e a common problem

RE: High pitched whine from centre rear of car.......

Update:

The local dealers couldn't get me in for two weeks and if I wanted a courtesy car it'd be a month!

So called Land Rover assist. Chap came; we went for drive; 10 seconds in, he said 'turn around, plain as day; rear dif' - this is after I'd taken it into the dealers months ago with the noise / and they said nothing wrong / can't hear anything untoward...

So Land Rover assist chap simply booked it in same day at dealers (they were forced to take it in that day) and arranged a courtesy car to be delivered to the dealer for me to use whilst the issue is investigated.

I have to say, if it weren't for Land Rover assist and the way these things seem to play out; I'd probably go nowhere near Land Rover; I'm assuming that all work will be done for free as it's an approved used car with another 18 months warranty left on it. If I'm asked for even a penny; it'll be fireworks.

RE: High pitched whine from centre rear of car.......

ive just had a very similar situation, complaining of noise from underneath for a few months but LR cant find anything wrong. Car was booked in for yet more investigations but got a lot worse before the date so LR Assist were called. He thought it might be the CV joint and escorted me round to a different LR dealer.
Courtesy car was waiting for me,(LR Assist have their own fleet of courtesy cars dotted around the dealers) and I just drove away. Dealer diagnosed as failed transfer box and gearbox which was all done under approved used warranty, not a penny paid by me.
If the dealer diagnoses it as the rear diff, then it will be covered no problem, and if they are a decent dealer they will check everything else as well. Or that's why they did with mine anyway and found crank case seals had also gone so sorted them under warranty too,

2011 Evoque Prestige 3 door - Indus Silver, gloss black 19'' style 5 wheels, privacy, partial black pack.

and a few Freelander 2 over the yearsLaughing

Or possibly not! Maybe things have changed since my main dealer days but any kind of warranty work was at a vastly inferior hourly rate compared to retail prices. Consequently, any way of bumping up the size of a warranty job by finding 'extra' work, specifically labour intensive work with very little parts required, (large units had to be sent back for examination) were often used. Gaskets and seals were the norm, even in my day!
