Headlight Problem

Good Morning fellow BRR members,

I have a 2012 Evoque, it has retro fitted Sat Nav and camera professionaly installed.

I have always had an issue with the headlights and its getting worse, the bulbs seem to be constantly blowing. I have taken to several different garages, they tend to replace bulbs clean up the connectors and away i go until a few weeks later when they blow again.

They have tested the alternater and says its not spiking, and the bulbs seem to be blowing out at the connectors. The garage i bought car from spoke to LR engineering and they advised to use pfficial bulbs and they had a modification mit for the connectors (It was changing ceramic to Plastic or vice versa i cant remember)

They did this mod and im still having issues, the garage cant seem to find the problem and any electical specialist are saying its not an electrical problem. I ahve used all sorts of bulbs including official LR ones.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelpv Smile

RE: Headlight Problem

im assuming the headlights are halogen and not xenon (as you have a retro satnav so guessing its 'basic' Pure spec)

this is long standing problem on both Freelander 2 with Halogen projector and Evoque with Halogen project.

its to do with the heat generated by the bulb and the shutter that switches between dipped and main beam.

for the FL2 there is a current technical bulletin for a free modification of the wiring loom which all but prevents this from happening. I would assume there is a similar tech bulletin covering the Evoque.

speak to a LR Main dealer service department and see what they say

2012 Evoque Pure 5 door - Santorini Black, 20'' style 6 wheels, privacy, fogs, (accident damaged wreck direct from LR approved :rollSmile
2011 Evoque Prestige 3 door - Indus Silver, gloss black 19'' style 5 wheels, privacy, partial black pack.

and a few Freelander 2 over the yearsLaughing

Thank you for this - I have spoken to LR main dealer they said it did have a bulletin and has now been withdrawn, the part they used for the mod is now discontinued and not avaliabile. Not sure where i go from here, is there a fix that an auto electrician would be able to do ?

RE: Headlight Problem

well that's a bit naughty of LR
Have you contacted Land Rover customer relations team direct ? it could the dealer just trying to fob you off. Have you spoken to a couple of dealers and got the same answer ?

the only way I could see to resolve it yourself would be to get an auto electrician to replicate what the LR modification was. Or to change the headlights for Xenon and get the CCF edited to accept them

Its been to an uto electrician who cleaned connectors fitted new bulbs and didnt solve the issue. They dont seem to believe me about it needing a modification. If i bought new wiring looms for the lights would this work ? (or got some from a breakers) The lights are knackererd now ive has so many bulbs that the connectors have a loose connection and its becoming a nightmare.

Ive phoned RR Customer services and they said they can do anything without a part number which the dealer cant find.

Ive tried phoning the 2 main delaers in my area - one gave me the advice above the other never botherd to call me back and is constantly engaged.

Frustrating to say the least

RE: Headlight Problem

that is disgusting customer care by LR tbh, have you tried speaking to a couple of different dealers to try and get the part number ?

buying new looms or new light units etc would only mean you have the same problem but just in a replacement set up.

its really either a case of modifying the loom (LR or otherwise) or buying a set of Xenon headlights and having the CCF amended to accept them.

Either that or just keep buying new bulbs
