Just wanted to respond on this subject as I can certain appreciate the concern it is causing.

Land Rover is aware of a rise in the number of thefts of Land Rover products. The current Land Rover line-up continues to meet the insurance industry requirements as tested and agreed with the relevant insurance bodies, nevertheless the company has taken this issue very seriously and our engineering teams have been working in collaboration with insurance bodies and police forces to fully understand the attack risks facing Land Rover models. It is however important to remember that this is an industry-wide issue and not specific to Land Rover vehicles only.

We have released a number of security updates in the last 12 months and have further updates due this year. We are continually updating and improving our security systems to ensure we stay ahead of the criminals and the industry-wide problem which the motor industry in general is tackling on a daily basis.

Unfortunately whenever there are "technical challenges" like this Land Rover is never the leader, it waits for the rest of the industry to lead before it follows on. Land Rover hypes up things that it thinks are important like the 9 speed gearbox 1st and aluminium construction etc etc but when it comes to real technical innovation Land Rover is way at the back of the pack when as the maker of high value, highly desirable products it should really be at the forefront or even leading where others fear to tread. The same goes for daytime illuminated rear/ tail lights - the stock answer is "they aren't required by law". Just because of that it doesn't mean to say LR cannot lead the way by fitting them. We wouldn't have DRL's if Volvo and Saab hadn't fitted them to their cars voluntarily because they were proved to reduce accidents and we wouldn't have had seat belts had Volvo not pioneered them! Why shouldn't a proud company with great heritage like Land Rover lead the way on security and safety, as Volvo proved safety sells cars!
