Controversial thought

My lad is a young petrolhead, and has been fortunate to have owned some pretty potent cars so early in his car owning life. Mini Cooper S and VW R32 as examples.

He also drives a lot of miles per year so is quite switched on regarding road conditions and other drivers and their vehicles.

But one of his pet hates and keeps bringing it up is that the Police seem to be driving around in Mercs, BMWs, Evos and Volvos including the 4wd variants, and questions why they aren't using Fords and Vauxhalls, I know this may be a perception thing but as a young lad he questions why are our taxes going on more upmarket vehicles.

Now this got me thinking, when are we going to see our emergency services driving around in Evoques?

Because that's all we need, Evoque orders being delayed because the boys in Blue want to get their hands on them as well.

Damn, another negative thread, must start taking the happy tablets.

Evoque No3: MY15 Dynamic Lux SD4, Auto, Santorini Black, Pimento Dynamic Plus Sports Seats, Ebony headlining, Pan Roof, Shadow Chrome Alloys.

RE: Controversial thought

I reckon, Its all about who will do deals for supply and upgrades, and also the reliability with a lot of mileage.

I remember the days of the local police Mini Metro...

I doubt it'll be long before the police evoque and the boys in blue should buy british! But I am dreading a Police Evoque in white...

Still not all Police vehicles are top spec...

RE: Controversial thought

Its because the cars used are the cheapest taking into account the huge discounts the police get and the residual values. The BMW/merc option is cheaper.

In my force we use loads of fords and vauxhalls, astras, corsas, focus, connects and a good few transits. The traffic cars are all BMW's and volvos though.

Oh and the worst car i have ever driven is the police spec 1.3tdi astra, utter crap but probably 50p cheaper than a focus so thats what we get!

Was in Duham last night (lumiere festival), there was a brand new discovery 4 ambulance car. NHS making redundancies, but they can get those. Makes you sick. Patients can't fit in them. I know they need 4x4 capability, but they don't need £50ks worth.

And those useless Highways Agency Patrols. All discos

Delivered: Evoque 5 door Prestige SD4 Auto 4WD, Orkney Grey, Fixed Panoramic Roof, Ivory Headliner, Vibe Interior, Spare wheel, 20" Chrome Shadow Style 7

Its not a brabus.
Its a "passion", which is the smart equivalent of the prestige.
They're still 10k though, so for a small car, still expensive.

Fwiw I do still see vauxhall police cars etc running around Reading, I thought the 4x4 versions and the bmw's and evos were for the specialist and pursuit/motorway cars.
The panda cars are all the cheapy stuff still.

As for the NHS comment, I understand where that comment is coming from, but they probably didnt pay the list price, if they paid anything at all, and to be honest, I'd rather they run newer cars than older cars which have the potential to break down. Being brand new, they might have only just replaced their old (out of warranty) vehicles.

The highways agency guys on the M4 through the thames valley all seem to use land cruisers.

RE: Controversial thought

IT was in the news recently that BMW got a large contract and it was because they can offer the ability to do the necessary upgrades modification on the production line where as other manufactures have to be modified afterwards, the latter being a more expensive option.

Obviously they still cost more to begin with but they also have better residuals, so in the long, less cost of ownership
