Brake pedal travel seem excessive
My brake pedal travel seems excessive.
I have checked the pads and they look fine.
If I applyn the handbrake this does not take up the travel
The pedal is better after one pump.
Any thoughts?

Isn't the handbrake electronic. Either on or off - not sure how you can judge travel on it?

In which case it's probably Air in the Hydraulic part of the system as xz4 suggested, and pretty much confirmed if you pump the pedal and it improves.

Check/replace the front pad retaining springs. If they are weak or missing, the pads sit at an angle to the disc and the first part of the pedal travel is wasted in taking up the slack when they straighten up. Very common on that type of braking system.

It seems to hvae sorted itself with my help. Applied the handbrake and pumped the pedal a few time. This, I believe has reset the adjustment of the calipers
