Anyone got the ski carrier?

I've recent bought the ski carrier for my new Dynamic but am puzzling over the fitting.

By default the t shaped bolts that connect the carrier to the cross bar are around 30mm long necessitating a 25 mm spacer between the cross bar and the bottom of the carrier. This seems very odd as the few photos I can see of the evoque with a ski carrier suggest a flush fitting.

Also the Thule site video for fitting these carriers ( the LR one is quite clearly a rebadged Thule) again shows a very tight fitting between cross bar and carrier.

The LR instructions also show this spacer, which seems very odd.

Before I cut these bolts down in size I just wondered if anyone had any experience of fitting the ski carrier.
