Alloy wheel corrosion

My Evoque is 10 months old and I noticed when washing the car last weekend that the rear left hand side alloy wheel has 3 separate spots of corrosion between the spokes. In one area it is significant. The wheel is otherwise as new and undamaged having never been kerbed etc. Covered 9,000 miles so far. The car is at the dealers today (it's first visit back since new) to have a minor niggle sorted and the wheel photographed - I am obviously seeking a new wheel under warranty.

Anyone else noticed this?

No issues with mine although the plastic wheel centre caps are delaminating and look like they were kerbed! Soon it will be someone else's problem though!

Which wheels do you have muff? Not had this on any of my wheels, but I always keep them well treated. Hopefully LR will replace yours, the risk is they'll say it's stone chip damage!

I do have 1 centre cap doing exactly the same as Tim's, which I will be looking to have replaced under warranty at it's next service.

Its the standard Pure, 7 spoke alloys with the annoying v shaped sub-groove in each spoke. It's inside the wee sub-grove where the oxidisation and alloy corrosion / bubbling is taking place. One area is the size of a 50p piece and the other two areas smaller.

Mine is 9 months old now and no problems on the alloys. Have they been cleaned with anything not recommended?

Some of the old school acid based wheel cleaners will dull the paint finish, but shouldn't cause any damage. Unless there was a chip in the lacquer & the acid cleaner not fully washed away.

No. Just good old fashioned warm water, Simonize car shampoo n wax and a hose - not a pressure washer.

Hopefully a new wheel will be forthcoming

I am at the 53000 mile stage and as Tim says centre caps looked tired but rims are holding up really well, still on the original 18 inch pirellis, amazing and still very smooth at the national speed limit. I think at least another 3000 for the fronts and plenty for the rears.

Amazed actually at how the rims are standing up as they have had a lot of brake dust in this time

Westy how on earth have you done 53000 miles on one set of tyres?! Mine have been on the car for less than 15k and I'm at about 3.5mm tread depth on the front. Rears however look almost brand new, like 7mm tread left.

My previous Freelander was sold with 59000 miles and the tyres were still legal although the front ones were getting towards needing replacing. The back ones still had quite a bit of life left in them.
